...eat? None - my penguin is vegetarian!

How do I get rid of one of Penguin or Geckos?
For me as an older aged user this is too much of info. I get nervous about the zoological details... And I would like to get rid of the ever same join and location dates.

Looks like you found how to get rid of your location. Join date is just part of the software so if you want to participate here, you have to put up with having your join date show. As for getting rid of the geeko....put a piece of tape on your monitor where the geeko shows up.

come in via nntp and you see no penguins, no geckos, no join dates, no
winkie-blinkie avatars, no smiling/frowning faces, no thumbs up/down,
etc etc etc....just the pure and simple words..

FAST, CLEAN, EFFICIENT...and you can change your name for every post
if you wish...(or, you can link it to your existing 'ulenrich' and
boost up your posting count along with all of those who worry about such..

wanna give it a whirl? see

Goldie,

Except for my AFDB wearing tux.

I do make the exception of X-face

:-)

But those are the very reasons why I use nntp.

I thought I had switched my webcam off.

And you missed an "r" out of fat there.

All of this is true, but goldie, bear in mind that posting under multiple
identities does violate the Terms and Conditions of using the forums.

It's not a good idea to encourage people to violate the T&C, so please
don't do that.

Not only that, but it makes it very difficult for you (as a user) to keep
track of the posts you've made. Pick one and stick with it, please, for
everybody's sake.

It is also a good idea to link your ID up with your OSF login - the FAQ
that you've linked to explains how to do that as well.

hmmmm...perhaps you are correct that it was the intention of the T&C
author(s) that "posting under multiple identities" via nntp is an
infraction...but, i read it a different way:

"Members may not create or use secondary accounts for deceptive
purposes including but not limited to: ..."

and note that i have created only ONE account...and, since changing
the "signed name" of a nntp 'guest' does not constitute creating an
'account' i feel ok about it...secondly, nntp posters are free to post
without creating the first account, making it doubly impossible to
break that section of the T&S while entering via nntp..

oh the other hand, if i (for example) spammed via nntp (or encouraged
same) that would be different, as it breaks the T&C for reasons other
than "creating a secondary account for deceptive purposes"

anyway, we know the mod's have access to full headers whether they be
of hhtp or nntp origin...and, if i actually violate the law (or T&C)
the full force of legal remedies are available to Novell or 'the
community'...(and, i'd guess IP blocking is drop dead easy)

that said, i will cease encouraging others to break your reading of
the T&C's *intent*...and wonder if it will now be rewritten..

Nevertheless I wanted to get funny....

This is a real concern regarding the forum webinterface:

- too much tautologous information (penguin is geckos)
- too much repetetive information

for older people. If you copy/paste information and condense you get less than 25% ...

yep...it seems that very few under some magic age are able to fathom
the potential utility of a simple search...most seem to think they
MUST be the first person on earth to could possibly want to change the
background as their FIRST action after install...for example.
