Default Had to change name for account, can old msg be linked?

Hi,
I finally created a user on the openSUSE website.
Now at least, people will be able to killfile be on the forums, too.

But I had to remove a space (Rikishi 42 became Rikishi42) in the name.
Can existing messages be 'linked' to the newer ones, somehow?

Posting from NNTP without matching an email address of an existing user actually posts under the GUEST account so there's no way to match up those messages, however, there is a way to keep messages going forward synchronized to a user between both interfaces. Exerpt from our Forums FAQ:

Quote:
Q:Is my NNTP user ID recognized in the web interface?
A: If your email address in your newsreader matches the email address you set up in vBulletin you will be recognized on both sides as the same user. If you prefer not to have your real email address in your newsreader, you can use the following syntax for an email address in your newsreader: userid@no-mx.forums.opensuse.org and your user will still be recognized.

Ah, so it's the email address? That hasn't changed, of course.
Only the name has.

But doesn't that mean that my older messages will be counted again my - now
existing - account ?

Take this post I'm replying to as an example (as seen on the web interface). Though it shows your name, it is actually posting under the user GUEST (shown under your name) which is used for all NNTP users that aren't registered on the web side. We can't separate your messages from anyone elses's messages because they all are posted by GUEST. You have to match user ID as well as email address.

That's what strange. I did create an account with that same name and
address...

Guess I'll have to check the registration again ...

OK, let's test it from the forum, to check for differences.

OK. After testing from within the forum, I think I understand; the email
address I need to use in my nntp-client is *not* the one I was asked in my
registration, but the one Novell assigned to me afterwards.

If that is really the issue, don't look further, I'll just stay guest.

My NNTP server and client are not just for openSUSE's forums. I also connect
to other companies' NNTP feeds and to usenet. I don't want to present them
with Novell's email, or mess about with multiple ID's.

A bit sad, I won't be able to count the articles written and see my 'status'
evolve. I'l end up a "Hovering Hering". :-)

Oh, and some people might not find it easy to add me to an ignore list. So
that's a plus. <grinning and ducking>

Thanks for looking into it anyway.

Two things if you want to be recognized as the same user in both interfaces:
1 - Your user ID needs to match on both interfaces
2 - Your email address used either has to match on both interfaces *OR* you can use the userid@no-mx.forums.opensuse.org format as an email address in your news client.

But they *do* match.
UserID is Rikishi42, email is skunkworks@rikishi42.net

But please, don't waste your time on this.
It was very kind to have looked into it.
