strange browser behavior - IE 6

Using IE 6, after clicking on a thread, I need to scroll down past the bottom end of the left edge frame to see the thread text when I first open a new window which gives a neither maximized nor minimized window. Upon maximizing the window, the thread text returns to where it is expected to be near the top of the page.

When I click on more to read a news story from announcements, the news story text stays at the bottom of the left edge frame even after maximizing the window.

The text underneath the left edge frame does not take up the whole width of the browser window - it is more analagous to inserting a page break and then a column break instead of just a column break in a word processing program.

This is a report of odd behavior, not a support request - for about 8 hrs a day I am restricted to using only this browser, so it will not be helpful to suggest I avoid this odd behavior by using a different browser.

that sounds like cruel and unusual punishment...maybe you could take
it up with a union representative...or, an attorney!!

I suppose it's useless to ask if you are allowed to use any other software on that machine? Couldn't you get it upgraded to IE7 at least?

Out of idle curiosity, is this behavior because IE6 expects some sort of non-standard html code to make the page look the way it does or something?

IE6 is so standands non-compliant that online HTML tutes have notes here and there saying, watch out IE6 doesn't do this properly, you have to work around it or something like that.

Just curious if it happens in all styles. At the bottom left of the forum
home page, just above the footer is a box allowing you to select different
styles. FYI we saw a LOT of problems with IE6 when setting these forums up
and I was hoping we had caught any significant ones.

considering the 'respect' we get as we travel around the web with
firefox/konqueror/etc and run into stop signs until we 'upgrade' our
browser to one the non-standards following web writers approve
of....i'd say it would be fair (instead of fixing the forum to work
with IE6) to suggest the MSIE user upgrade to firefox, and offer a
button to begin that process..

Who says we're fair? If it's something simple, we should be able to fix
it.
