Hello everyone, my name is Alessandro from Italy.
I have tried a ton of distro Linux, Bsd and even OpenSolaris, even Suse 32 bit (on DVD) some years ago.

The agreement between Novel and Microsoft has bothered me greatly but in the end OpenSuse is free then patience. :\

Currently I use the most ArchLinux while for serious thing I use Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 (an LTS release).

My idea is try OpenSuse (from CD) using the 64 bit edition perhaps only between some days or maybe next year.

I have read the support for each version of opensuse is 18 months (while before was 24 months) I am curious:

1) to understand compared to ubuntu, if it is less distressed by bug or malfunction from the beginning or not;
2) about the available support on the forum for the resolution of the problems.

Perhaps i will do some (or even a lot) questions even before install opensuse because if i have more clear idea in advance i can reduce the time to resolve eventual problem after the installation.

Perhaps someone could ask why you want tried the 64 bit version?
I have tried only one linux version at 64 bit (Sabayon some times ago), while i'm reading this forum (as guest), i read on the forum that the separation between 32 and 64 bit was limited because now seem there are less problem then i'm curious if finally the 64 bit version is really usable without headaches.
And with 18 months support perhaps i have some time even for more serious test during application developer.

Note:
Sorry in advance for my limited english. :\

I have just tried installing the new OS which eventually failed but still left me with one question:

After installing the system I ran system update and was told I have one package to install, the MS core fonts. This seemed a little odd to me as I understood that the ATI drivers I wanted to use are not on the official repository as they're non-free.
My question is why it's acceptable to include the MS core fonts (which most other distros don't consider as free) while not including something much more useful like fglrx (which the same most other distros don't consider as free)?

I would just like to make it clear that I'm not trying to attack OpenSUSE, I am really only curious since the lack of easily installed fglrx drivers is what made me give up on OpenSUSE (and yes, I know I'm not a big loss to the OpenSUSE community, or any other community, but it might affect others).

If you have particularly the Iso's for :

DVD i586
DVD x86_64
GNOME Livecd x86_64

Could you consider seeding a torrent (even at small upload bandwidth), Ktorrent won't stomp on an iso file you already downloaded, it just checks the data for correctness.

Even a small bandwidth contribution will help downloaders, as leechers amplify your contributions by seeding each other with the data you upload.

Without some more seeders the torrents will die.

One thing that really baffles me is why NASA doesn't simply release pictures of the moon landing site on the moon.

That would immediately stop all the theories about it never having happened.

Last month they released a picture of the supposed Apollo landing site, but quite frankly it was totally fuzzy and non-descript.

Sorry, I should have copied that pic when it was released and made a nice link here, but I didn't :(.

How come in this day and age when we can see many many light years into the past, see planets and galaxies far further than we can even imagine, we can see people sunbathing on beaches through Google Earth, but we can't see an old lunar rocket and a moon buggy on a small planetoid just "on the corner" in the galactic scale of things?

I mean, we should at least be able to have a webcam there shouldn't we?

Maybe the conspiracy mob can get together and sponsor an "Apollo moon landing webcam" project, think of the advertising dollars!! ;).

Someone needs to write an updated opensuse book for 11.2. I switched to linux almost 2 years ago with ubuntu 7.10 and at the time I read a good ubuntu book which helped with the transition from windows. Now I'm really liking opensuse 11.2 but feel a little lost in kde and haven't gotten the hang of some of the small things that are different in opensuse than ubuntu. I can't find a good book for opensuse desktop users most of the stuff applies to servers and stuff.
So someone write an opensuse 11.2 book and I will buy it from you... lol
