Getting it to install and boot properly on a Compaq v2000 with Radeon Xpress 200m is an extreme challenge. Most people with my machine would most likely just **** it and go to another distro but it finally was able to work.

However the sound is of **** quality. When i close a window (with something playing) i get a sudden blast of sound at decibils that can send a shock through my body. Worse, there seems to be no way to change the sound server using the sound preferences as there was in 11.1.

Overall 11.2 feels more like a beta, and makes me hesitant to try future releases.

has something changed or is this a bug?

Hi, the Suse 11.2/KDE 4.3.3 combination is fabulous. However, for some reason, Opera 10.01 utilises one CPU at 100%. This has been flagged on both Opera and Linux forums but has never before happened to me in Suse 10 through to 11.1. A workaround is to download beta Opera 10.10b from Opera.
A completely unrelated issue for me was that Yast Software Manager produced errors for some reason. I needed to rebuild the database with rpm --rebuilddb (plus run zypper ref and zypper ve to check everything was ok).
No other problems and I am really enjoying the new features (particularly that PDF files now open with Okular instead of GIMP in some circumstances!)

I just installed 11.2 with a couple of hiccups, but it runs well and looks great. I tried to restore my backup set via fwbackups and it errors out on a python thing. Looked at my python apps (python-crypto in particular) and they are all the latest.

I think one of the two backups I made was a simple copy and not compressed. I'll try to save the files that way. But this is what I feared most about a backup program: it would backup but not restore.

One important thing: if I try to import the backup set into fwbackups, the dialog box does not put it into the main program when I click "open." It merely opens the current directory and each click takes it further down the directory tree.

Hopefully this is the right section for my question.

Anyway, a few days ago I had to do a reinstall and I only had my 11.2 M5 live cd at hand so I installed that.
After the install I added a bunch of 11.2 repos that I found on the site here and updated all packages (over 2 gig of updates).
Now I wonder by having done that am I now running 11.2 final in effect?
And also, would there be other things I need to do to get to 11.2 final?

Here's a screenshot of how I have my repos setup:
I was hoping that this release would finally support the Realtek 8187SE wireless adapter in my Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5965. Yast shows the device under hardware information, but it is never assigned a device name. Manually running the installation and trying either rtl8187 or rtl8180 modules only gets a 'No network device found. Load a network module first.' I know other distros has support for this wlan chipset. Will we have it too?

Same problem as with RC1. After DVD installation on a freshly formatted disk, RC2 dies after first boot when entering graphics mode. Blank screen, no keyboard, only hard reset is possible and installation is incomplete. After some searching, it appears that the graphics card is not supported by the OS nv driver. Using some tricks, I installed the nVidia driver and RC2 finished installation and worked flawlessly. Tricks involved booting in rescue system, mounting the disk, renaming the X directory, rebooting, setting up network manually, downloading nVidia driver from nVidia ftp site, etc.. Not a user friendly procedure.
I know, because that's what happens with my Acer laptop with a Mobility Radeon x700, that the installation can detect if graphics mode is not supported, and proceed in character mode.
I hope it can be done for my nVidia card.
This is what lspci -v reports about this card:
VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G94 [GeForce 9600 GT] (rev a1)

I have been through the whole development stage with openSUSE 11.2 (milestones/rcs etc) and now i just have installed the final version. However i still have two issues that have been following me through everything.

1. No bootsplash, complaining about no good signatures. Is it suppose to be like that? Ubuntu, Fedora and Mandriva have all nice boot experiences while my openSUSE is just a wall of text.

2. No sound with flash in firefox. This is a big issue for me, for some strange reason it don't seem to be a problem with gnome just kde which makes me wonder if it's phonon related?

Otherwise i have to give big props for this release, absolutely the best KDE experience by far.

Installed 11.2 Final via x86_64 -NET installer from my own rsynced repository today on my test machine using USB key to boot the -NET installer (thus it's a little different than the actual install).

The old test box encompasses an Asus A8N-SLI SE+ mobo, AMD X2/4800 chugging along at 2.2GHz + , 4GB of memory, 2x1TB normal + 2x500GB in Stripe - all Seagate 7200.10's, a pair of nVidia 8800GT 512MB's and an Creative X-Fi bulk to bring the noise.

The install was pretty straightforward as always, since the machine is clean and has no dual boot setup or other nigglies, it was merely a case of hitting next and remove the default suggestion of having /home, which I never do.

Things I've spotted so far;
- X-Fi wasn't detected on install, neither did it configure properly - solution? Reboot after the system was setup, it was detected and auto-configured properly on next reboot without interaction. *shrug*
- nano is broken on x86_64 arch, search makes it segfault, bug here; https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=540647
- KDE still doesn't enable suxpixel hinting + smoothing by default -> fonts looks downright awful and give a really bad impressive of the default install.
- Windows decoration by default not to my liking, back to Plastik for me! :-)
- Bootsplash did not work at all, I attribute this to using text mode installer, I'll have to stab it a bit later when I have time.

- Also, KDE keyboard layout doesn't seem to do anything - I won't declare it as fubar yet, I'll investigate a bit.

Other than that this was, by far, the smoothest openSuSE install of all time and KDE4 feels quite snappy, especially with the latest nVidia binary installer (the nVidia modules are not up so 1-clicker doesn't work).
