I installed 11.2 and KDE 4 on a laptop last night and had some issues with knetworkmanager for which I did not find a quick answer here but eventually figured it out so might help some others:

- knetworkmanger by default wants to use Kwallet, if you disabled kwallet then knetworkmanger will not connect anymore. You need to re-enable kwallet again in personal settings, advanced or configure knetworkmanger to not use kwallet (see next tip)

- knetworkmanger can work fine without kwallet if you go to the settings and select to store the secrects in a file.

- if for some reason knetworkmanger wont start by itself go to ~/kde4/share/config and open networkmanagentrc with kwrite and make sure autostart=true

- Xil

Installed OpenSUSE 11.2 KDE LiveCD-version three days ago.

Very pleasant surprise: my D-Link G122 (rev C.) wireless USB stick finally gets detected by default! Did not pick up network address until after I reset my router, but after that it runs smoothly.

Now for some additional praise:

* The artwork is simply stunning

* Boot time to a fully up-and-running KDE desktop: 20 seconds (used to be 35-40 seconds on previous versions... cut in half, that's weird, but cool)

* KDE 4(.3?) is awesome! Finally consistent 'open file' boxes for Firefox, Openoffice too. And in software heaven with Dolphin, Okular, Amarok (although sometimes it's sluggish)

* Only one complaint: setting things up is almost too easy :p (at least with the 1-click installs for multimedia, nvidia, etc)

Great job on this version! :)
Had the same problem in ubuntu as well, but was able to install the firmware on that machine, but not on the 11.2 machine. I figure I am just doing something stupid. I have already reviewed the stickies, and just can't seem to figure it out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!:)

5) Then, enter the following commands:

user@Toshiba:~$ sudo modprobe -r usbserial

I get a FATAL error here, Module usbserial is in use, I tried with compass 597 in and out, neither works?

user@Toshiba:~$ sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x1199 product=0x0023

6) Launch “KPPP” from “Applications” -> “Internet” and try to Connect. If works, should see something like this:

Here I get kppp can not find /dev/usb/ttyUSB0 Please make sure you have set up your modem device properly and/or adjust the location of the modem device on the modem tab of the setup dialog

I assume its because of the modprobe -r error, but not sure how to fix this?

when I do lsusb Sierra is at Bus 002 Device 008: ID 1199:0023 Sierra Wireless INC.

kernel is 2.6.31.5-0.1 x86-64
KDE 4.3.1 release 6

I'd just like to say, 11.2 is a gorgeous OS. Well done!

Thanks in advance for any help.

I was able to get wireless working in 11.2 RC2, all I had to do is to blacklist rt2800 and everything worked fine. I tried 32-bit and 64-bit 11.2 final version and knetwork manager wouldn't even start. When I would double click on it it would give me the message that it is disabled. I tried setting up my wireless by activating wireless in network settings in yast, but I still couldn't connect to internet. I was picking up wireless signals including the one from my router but couldn't connect cuz knetworkmanager wouldnt do anything. I just cannot believe that it was working in RC2 and it doesn't in final version :( Opensuse is my favorite distro but I am disappointed that wireless works with no problems in mandriva 2010 and in ubuntu karmic. Now I'm thinking about going back to one of those :(
