Hi,

Hope someone can help. I am running openSUSE 11.2 with an HP printer running locally no problem. I want to use this printer from all my pc's and I have got it working from another linux pc (also 11.2) but having trouble getting it to work from a windows xp pc. I'm effectively using IPP printing, I can ping my 'server' pc, and I can see my printer from CUPS and can print a test page from CUPS, but I cannot print otherwise. Have I done it right in that I add a printer from the add printer wizard, select network printer, select URL in my case http://192.168.1.2:631/printers/Photosmart-C5300-series OK then it asks for the driver which I have pre-loaded and it adds it all ok.
But when I try to print something it doesn't print, the print queue shows status 'error' and thats all. CUPS does not show the job, yet as I said I can print a test page ok.

Any ideas ??

I just rebuilt one of my machines at work with 11.2 and decided to give samba authentication a try. I got it set up with no trouble, but I have a question about mounting Windows shares.

The way I've been mounting shares is by creating a .credentials file in my home directory, then adding the network share in fstab and using the credential file to authenticate.

What I was wondering is, since I'm using samba authentication now and am logging in with the credentials I've been storing in the file, can I adjust my fstab to use these credentials instead of the file? I'm guessing that since fstab is mounting things as root, my current credentials don't apply.

Is there another way to do this without storing my credentials in a file on my machine?

When i was googling this questions I find out that there is patches for NetworkManager that makes it to understand static routes via dhcp and i hoped that it will work in 11.2 but no. :(
There is even no way to add routes manually via GUI. Only using traditional ifup in YaST. Or scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network/if-up.d/

When will NetworkManager learn too understand static routes?

Sorry for my english.

So instead of updating libxml2, I decided to remove it and then install a different version using zypper. This ended up removing zypper and php5. I reinstalled zypper and php5, along with all the modules I previously had, but now when I try to start my apache2 2.2.10 server with SSL enabled, it just hangs and I don't return to the command line. All connections through a browsers also hang indefinitely without timing out. Previously, the apache server responded to https requests. When I start the server without SSL enabled, php works fine. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I'm using opensuse 11.1 and php 5.2.11.
I have DHCP and I want to stay with it, not Static IP, I was able to do it on Windows with a program, but now I wanna do the same thing in Linux.

My question is: is there a way to automaticly get my pc IP and change it to my dns (Something.). So everytime anyone puts Something. it will go to my website stored on my PC.

Thanks.

Hi

I have configured my recently upgraded 11.2 machines to mount shares from my 11.1 server by samba/cifs, configured in /etc/fstab mounted to mount points under /media, i have tried to change the mountpoint but that doesent help.

It works ok but the trouble is that from time to time, nautilus for some strange reason autoopens a new window with those shares, it happens on average 1 or 2 timmes an hour.

I have run with the same config for like ages, without problems, my machines still running 11.1 arent affected with this.

I have installed Windows XP Pro as a guest host in Virtual Box (itself installed from the rpm binary -- not ose).I have tried to access the network from the Windows VM using all of the different adapters. I can ping using loopback (127.0.0.1) but nothing else. ipconfig returns "Windows IP Configuration" rather than an IP address, router address, etc. The host machine is running SuSE 11.1 with a reserved IP address obtained from the router as DHCP server. NAT is disabled.

I'd be very grateful for suggestions about what I might have failed to do or done incorrectly.

Can I setup an openSUSE box with Samba as a backup DC to an existing Windows Server 2008 primary DC?

I replaced an older Windows 2003 SBS server with a new server and setup a new domain. SBS editions of Windows don't allow for multiple DCs at all. I'd like to retask the old hardware to make a backup DC. I'd also rather now buy another Windows 2008 server license to do so.

Can I use Linux and Samba to create a backup DC? And can I use VSS or Rsync to sync the file shares from the primary server as well?

Thanks for your help!
