Hello all, I have a Hauppauge WinTV Nova T 500 digital tv card, it worked fine in 11.0 & 11.1 under KDE 3.5, I had to put a file called dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw in /lib/firmware but now that does nothing in 11.2. I've tried setting it up in YAST but that doesn't work either. When I fire Kaffeine up and select Digital TV the scan tab is greyed out. Can anyone help? I'm running 11.2 x64 KDE4.3.

I've just downloaded the new 64-bit release of SuSE 11.2 and have
installed it on my Thinkpad T60. I've upgraded the processor in the unit to 2.33ghz and have added the maximum ram of 4gb.

This install seems to me to be significantly more buggy
than the 32-bit SuSE 11.1 release that I've been running. By buggy I mean that my Evolution mail reader has crashed several times and when you drag a window across the screen the refresh rate is terrible with the window jump-jump-jumping across and leaving empty gray space for 2-3 seconds before the desktop fills in. In addition, the fonts are "weird" and do not appear to be consistent. Often fonts and labels do not show,
(e.g.,blank buttons) as the font color appears to be the same as the background.

However that said, VMware Workstation v6.5 under 64-bit SuSE runs a WinXP 32-bit guest at lightening speeds...so fast you would swear it was native.
Has anyone else tried the 64-bit 11.2 release on a similar machine and how much success have you had. Is there anything that I should be doing that I am missing here?
TIA to all.

Hi
I've got 64 bit openSUSE 11.2 with KDE4 installed.
Now it's time to address printing.

I have a Brother HL 2040 Laser printer. I download the (32 bit) rpm drivers from the Brother site and install them. I go to http://localhost:631 and the CUPS admin interface pops up with the HL 2040 seemingly installed OK. I click to do a "test print" and the CUPS interface tells me the job completed successfully, but no page come forth from the printer. I also have a dual boot with 32 bit Suse installed. The printer works fine on that, so it's the 64 bit setup that's the problem.

I'm a complete newbie at printing. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Thanks

I see a lot of people have been having problems with ATI driver installations, but I haven't seen any posts regarding this specific issue:

When I install opensuse 11.2 x86_64 from the DVD, the provided radeonhd 1.3 driver works mostly fine. There are some occasional minor graphic aberrations, but nothing to cry over. Typing "glxinfo" in a console spews forth all kinds of GLX information, which all looks positive.

When I try to install the Catalyst 9.10 or 9.11 drivers, the installation appears to be successful and X.org starts up fine, but my display is super slow. Moving windows around is painful. Typing "glxinfo" at the command line gives me an error message. My procedure basically involves running the ATI installer, choosing "automatic setup", and then running "aticonfig --initial" after installation is complete.

I don't know if DRI is disabled, or if the GLX error is the culprit. I also read somewhere that there might be some conflict between the kernel's Radeon DRM module and the FGLRX driver.

Can someone enlighten me please?

I have a Dell Optiplex 740 with a DVD reader and a DVD-RW.
Everything that has to do with the DVD drives worked in
SuSe 11.1 and KDE 4.1. Everything still works in Windows XP.
I just installed SuSe 11.2 with KDE 4.3.

My problem is that CD's and DVD's written on another machine
from ISO's are automounted and work. CD's and DVD's written
by the same drive with k3b that are not from ISO's will not
mount at all.

I opened the case and reseated all of the cables for both drives
and get the same results.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong and how to fix it?

Hi,

Just installed 11.2 and found out that ATI hates people with older cards :( I have a radeon x1600 so the driver doesn't install.

Appearantly I have the opensource driver installed and SAX says 3D is enabled. When I run glxgears they show up perfectly. When I enable Compiz it works for about 2 or 3 seconds, the effects are there, but then it drops out back to the normal desktop. Same when I start World of Warcraft, I see the game and then it drops back to the desktop.

The opensource driver has 3D support for at least Compiz right? Is it even possible now to run Compiz? Or do I need to go back to 11.1?

Hi: I was searching around for a nice DIY - I am getting a new ATI card to replace my cheaper NVidia card, and need to remove the drivers I compiled for the NVidia. I *think* OpenSuSE 11.1 x86_64 will detect that the card doesn't match the driver and simply boot into a low-res VGA mode after I swap out the cards. Or it might fail to boot into KDE, and dump me at a command line. Then I could replace the xorg.conf with the original, default xorg.conf and reboot? After that, I can install the ATI drivers from KDE...

(does that sound right?)

I have a fresh install of OpenSuSE 11.2(KDE) with the only non-default things being addition of the nVidia repository and installation of the driver for my card(x11-video-nvidiaG02, nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-KERNEL). No other software has been installed. Everything was working perfectly until i shutdown. Upon starting up today the nVidia x server settings no longer detects the nvidia driver, and my resolution has been switched(and can't be changed back through the gui) from 1440x900 to (best guess)1068x620. desktop effects are completely disabled(were working just fine before). oddly enough it also doesn't detect my video card at all and instead shows my onboard video in the SaX2 gui. Any ideas how i can get my desktop back up to the way it was before i shut it down?

Hi,

I've just successfully installed OpenSuse 11.2. And proceeding to install the graphics driver provided by S3Graphics. I followed the instructions given religiously but hit a roadblock during installation.

It just says "Install s3g.ko failed." and I'm clueless on how to proceed.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
