Can't login after nvidia driver install

Running 12.3, installed the proprietary nvidia drivers using 1 click and now I can't login. Whenever I try to login, it just loops back to the login screen. I am not sure where to look to troubleshoot since I haven't found much information on this issue. I was able to open nvidia-settings and it is configured to use my card (GT 220).

xserver crashes while initializing

On my HP ProLianf DL380 G4 the xserver crashes while initializing. The operation system is openSUSE 12.3 and the gpu is a mach64. Here is my xorg.conf and the Xorg.o.log:

Waterkoeler kenners

Net mijn eerste waterkoeler in de pc gestopt, het is een H55 van corsair geworden ;-)
het doel is een stille pc te hebben, overklokken op deze pc doe ik niet.
nu heb ik een beetje zitten spelen, origineel draait de pomp aan 1400tr en de ventilator op de radiator aan 1600tr.

via fancontrol heb ik bekomen dat de cpu temp op 35 graden uitkomt en stabiel blijft

Nu dacht ik om de radiator vent hardware matig uit te koppelen en de pomp op de cpufan te zetten, zou dit een goed gedacht zijn?

BTRFS Raid unter Yast einrichten

Hallo!

ich versuche gerade auf meinem Testserver im Tumbleweedzweig unter yast ein btrfs-Raid auf zwei Platten einzurichten, Aber irgendwie steig ich nicht ganz durch. ich benutze keine gui, also das simpelste yast. mdadm raids hab ich schon viele eingerichtet, das geht immer ohne Probleme mit Device nicht formatieren, und dann adden. Allerdings will ich das nun mithilfe btrfs erledigen, und natürlich irgendwann mal raid 5 nutzen wenn es denn mal ausgereifter ist. Ich hab den Kernel 3.9.x, und auch entsprechend das aktuelle Yast.

Meine Frage konkret, wie richte ich in yast ein raid mit btrfs ein, und haenge dies dann ein? eine systemplatte hab ich, es soll nur als datenlager herhalten. praktisch eine ssd für das system, und x platten für das raid. ich scheitere immer an den Begrifflichkeiten wie subvolumes usw.

Manuell klappt das alles halbwegs, allerdings seh ich dann eine Warnmeldung ich soll das gefälligst in yast einrichten. und da ich dann die oberste Partition verschlüsseln will hilft mir das auch nicht weiter. ich sehe das Laufwerk dann nicht mehr in Yast.

mkfs.btrfs -m raid0 /dev/sdb /dev/sdc

kann mir jemand einen guten tip geben?

Xwinwrap für 12.3

der Titel sagt es bereits, auch nach eingehender Suche konnte ich noch keine Quelle oder RPM
für xwinwrap finden. Ich muß dazu sagen, daß ich ein SUSE-Neuling bin und aus der Debian-Ecke komme.
Wie kompatibel sind eigentlich Fedora /Mandriva Pakete?

Psensor shows only one HDD

Since I installed my openSUSE on my desktop a few day ago and tried Psensor to see my hardware sensors but the only problem is I see only one HDD in Psensor.

I found a similar post and tried all out.

I tried to set hddtemp at /etc/sysconfig/hddtemp like this:

I have it such with Skype, that there's feedback between the loudspeaker and the mic.

If I take a headset on, I also can hear myself.

What's the switch in the mixer, that needs to be turned down/off ?

openSUSE destroys partitions on external hard drive on Fujitsu Lifebook A512

Hi,

I have a Fujitsu Lifebook A512 and the problem is the following:

When I plug in my USB hard drive, there is no notification in KDE to mount and open it with an application. When I try to mount with mount command in terminal, it says mount: Unknown filesystem type '(null)'. (I did make sure that I try to mount the right filesystem, which was sdb1.)

I have tried with ext4, then ntfs filesystem, but the same thing happened. On my desktop computer, this hard drive works well, until I do not plug it in to my laptop. The filesystem becomes unreadable after plugging it in to my Fujitsu laptop.

Issue with java and web based voice recorder

I just installed Sun Java to be able to use a voice recorder on a language learning site. When i click on the recorder button a pop up appears and tells me i need to install java. Do i need to point Chrome to java or install a web plugin or something?

GDM doesn't work

Hi,
I've installed opensuse 12.3 and then updated to Tumbleweed in order to have a rolling distro. I've done the 416 updates and zypper gave me no errors. After I rebooted the pc, gdm stopped working and the boot stops at
[ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface
During the boot i can see the splashscreen of the green chameleon, so i don't think this is a Graphic problem. I use a notebook with an Intel graphic card GMA4500HD.
Before using Tumbleweed everything worked.
If i get into a shell and type "systemctl status gdm" it says:
gdm.service
Loaded: error (reason: no such file or directory)
What should I do?

And installed gsmartcontrol.

I get this error when I run the command gsmartcontrol:

Ситуация такая: стоит терминальный сервер под управлением win 2003 и клиенты с opensus12.3 на борту. Нужно сделать так чтобы локальные устройства (USB flash) с клиента при подключении отображались на сервере. Возможно ли это осуществить если да то как?

Ntp time is wrong, server can't be reached

hi,

I'm using kde, the clock applet time is wrong, it's UTC and thus lacking 2 hours.
i'm using ntp and pool.server.org as default, if i want to change the server to europe.pool.server.org i can't, it can't be reached.

ntpdate seems ok but kde clock is still wrong after reboot
