Another beef about forum login

OK, so I actually tried to login to the web forums.

I'm at <https://forums.opensuse.org/ICSLogin/auth-up> and Firefox
apparently knows my username and password, which is quite likely because
I have logged in successfully before. So I click on 'login' and:

- nothing much happens for a while, and then
- the screen doesn't change at all

The difference between those two statements is that in between my
browser made five successful GET requests, for auth-up, wiki.css,
superstats.js, s24324995755662, and s24324995755662 (with various
parameters)

So, and pardon my shouting, WHY DID NOTHING CHANGE ON SCREEN?

What kind of idiot designs a user interface that provides no feedback?

It appears I'm not logged in. OK, *WHY* am I not logged in? What went
wrong? Is it too much to give me a hint as to what I need to do to fix
whatever the problem is?

Think about it. If it all worked just fine I wouldn't have written my
post, would I?

Please read my post again, assume that I did actually write what
happened, and perhaps help me and others by trying to explain it?

I quoted that because I cut it out of my browser. That's where the login
process took me. If it's not correct then the login process is broken,
which is what I said.

11.4/kde4.6/ff5.0):

-go to http://forums.opensuse.org

-click "Login" (upper right, below "Advanced Search" blank
-page cycles to
<https://forums.opensuse.org/ICSLogin/?%22http://forums.opensuse.org/login/icslogin.php?destination=/%22>

-and (in my case, since i use KWallet) the Username and Password fields
are filled in..

-click on "Login"

-page cycles to http://forums.opensuse.org/ and says "Welcome DenverD"

i wonder, do you have javascript enabled? or maybe some 'strange' ff
add-ons (mine listed in sig)

I'm not using kwallet but firefox fills in the username & password

screen stays exactly as before

It doesn't appear to matter whether js is enabled or not; I get the same
result. I don't have 'strange' add-ons. Perhaps I'll try disabling the
ones I do have.

opensuse.org & novell.com cookies

ff Menu > Edit > Preferences > Privacy > Remove individual cookies

yep, the link takes you to a comprehensive list of software installed..

btw, i have seen a lot of irritating stuff out of the web forum
software, but never what you reported...so ??? (well! don't take that to
mean i believe you didn't see what you did see!)

BTW, I wonder what opensuse is doing about the requirement not to serve
me (or any other UK citizen) with any cookies without asking my explicit
permission first

(I wish our government would pass laws about spam and javascript instead
of silly ones about cookies)

you make me laugh--because i thought it was only the USA's law makers
who think they can 'control' the internet by passing local laws..

hmmm, so the law is the forums must _ask_ permission to serve you milk
and cookies?

is it not enough to inform you, and let you decided if the Terms &
