Default Sound from mic coming through speakers/headphones

    hello everyone,
my mic seems to be 'ON' all the time and the sound is captured and comes through the speakers/ headphones. for eg: the sound of key strokes are captured by the mic when i type and is heard through the speakers. i hope you guys can help me. the result of /usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh is given below:

What was it like before you updated Tumbleweed to the version 3 kernel?

I don't know, but wouldn't advise doing it here as you might lose out on some function you later require!

Your main problem seems to be that the Mic is always on picking up everything around your machine. Is your sound also coming out through speakers when headphones are plugged in? You will find several threads on our [multimedia] forum investigating and solving the latter problem for various machines/audio chips. It often ends up as a kernel/alsa detection and configuration problem requiring a bug report.

I have a similar Intel chip as yours on my notebook (also with C2D T6670), but using a different Codec. Originally, my speakers didn't turn off with headphones attached until I upgraded the kernel. The problem predated Tumbleweed and also affected other distros using the same or earlier kernel versions. I suggest you run through the following guide while awaiting further advice: SDB:Audio troubleshooting, in particular steps 4 & 5.

Can we assume you installed and tested your machine for sound on standard 11.4 [with its standard version 2 kernel] before upgrading to Tumbleweed? If so, with what result?

sorry for the late reply. yes, sound comes out of the speakers and headphones at the same time. but, it doesnt bother me since the sound coming through the speakers when the headphones are plugged is hardly audible. 'oldcpu' had directed me to a tutorial for solving the above problem and it worked out partly. i'm contended with the present situation. its this new issue thats bothering me

again sorry for the late reply. actually i havent noticed this issue in "11.4". not sure if this was present in kernel 2.x or not. anyway, i'll try out the steps mentioned in the troubleshooting guide and get back. thanks for your support

i browsed through the troubleshooting guide. but i got stuck @ SDB:Intel-HDA sound problems - openSUSE . my codec is "VIA VT1708S" but i was unable to find the said codec in In the file /usr/src/KERNEL_VERSION/Documentation/sound/alsa/ALSA-Configuration.txt as instructed. could this be a problem?

I don't think the absence of your Codec in that file proves a problem, so move on through the guide. My Codec isn't listed either. Under heading "Module snd-hda-intel", here it just lists this as the module for Intel HD Audio ICH9, and that should also apply to your chip.

Assuming you are using KMix, did you try Muting the "Internal Audio Analogue Stereo channel" on the "Capture Devices" tab of the mixer panel? Click on the small speaker icon below the scale, and see if that stops your Mic from picking up the sounds.

IT GOT FIXED! i entered the 'model name' as it was instructed and restarted the system. but instead of Intel HDA, there was 'Dummy Output' and no sound. so i reverted the '50-sound.conf' to its original state and restarted once more. dont know how, but now everything seems normal. i hope it stays that way. thanks a lot for your support "consused". really appreciate it.
