    It appears there is not a common method in Linux to disable all types of
    screensavers. Xine, for example, resorted to the trick of emulating a key
    press periodically, so that the system thinks there is user activity and
    doesn't fire the screensaver.

    I too am a VLC user for me I just went into Configure Desktop & shutoff the screensaver.

    I know of a program, called caffeine, I used it in UBUNTU, but haven't been able to find it in suse. it's a systray icon that you can click to disable your screen saver/sleep.
    what you need:alien deb python-xlib I'd use Yast, as they have a couple of depencies.
    for caffeine-https://launchpad.net/caffeine (the 10.10 works fine in 11.4)
    for use in depth use of alien-http://linux.die.net/man/1/alien
    then go into your directory, run as root so
    sudo alien -r /home/poop/other/caffeine.deb

    that will make an rpm file that you can just click on.
