When opensuse 11.4 starts up, the back-light is off on my laptop. I can plug it into an external monitor and the display is fine.

so help me please

Hi, this is a volunteers foum and the setup you are describing is not very common; so there may not be anyone on the forum with the experience to answer your question. Googling, I found a possible solution at https://gist.github.com/947142 though on openSUSE, you need to use su -- rather than sudo unless you have already configured sudo.
