Can no longer boot into OpenSuse 11.4 after updating NVIDIA Drivers

Greetings, I am relatively new to OpenSuse, migrated here from ubuntu.

Basically everything was going fine, and i was enjoying the OpenSuse experience, then downloaded djl (Games Launcher) , installed some games and found that i had a very very very bad frame rate (about 1FPS), and my GPU is a NVIDIA GTS250 (1GB), and runs most games flawlessly under m$, so i went about installing the graphics drivers for my card. I followed the instructions and was under the assumption that i installed the correct ones, but now i cannot boot into any graphical interface.

I think that it should be a graphics issue, as this was one of the few things done before rebooting.

I have tried booting into the normal mode, and the failsafe,
I have read many other "Not booting'' posts, and have tried their solutions without success, there include:
Changing the boot parameters
Logging in and manually trying to boot up the gui (init 3.... init 5... etc)

When the computer tries to load up OpenSuse in normal mode, it comes up with the normal loading screen, and then about 90% of the way it stops for about 30 seconds, and then switches over to a CLI, asking for a login, going through the log a couple of things fail, did have these noted down (but cannot find and will post along with other commands that i am asked to do)

I want to try and avoid a reinstall as it took me a long time to get the WiFi card working.

If someone could please try to help me solve this problem, either by walking me through reverting the new driver, or helping me diagnose then solve the problem

so i went about installing the graphics drivers for my card

just what did you install?
the kmod rpm? or the nvidia.run?
and
did you fallow the instructions ?

you MUST blacklist the open Nouveau driver !

Hi John,

I am pretty sure i installed the .rpm, i followed the instructions on the NVIDIA page, explicitly for OpenSuse.

How do i blacklist the open Noeveau Driver? I have access to a console, and can login as root.

Huh??

You don't have a _booting_ problem, your system is booting correctly. You
have a graphical system problem. Please use the correct terminology.

How do i blacklist the open Noeveau Driver

READ the opensuse nvidia guides i posted!

and if you used the instructions on the nvidia web site YOU INSTALLED the .run drier
so use the instructions for " the HARD way"

Yeah! I'm having exactly the same problem! No GUI after installing nvidia drivers!

openSUSE 11.4 with nvidia gforce 6600 GT and crt monitor which needs at least 85 Hz, not 50 or 60 Hz

nvidia-xconfig was launched by yast2, but if I start it manually at the DOS Prompt, the result is always the same.

nvidia-xconfig kills the whole system, and sax2 ist simply "dropped". How can I configure my machine for running 1024 x 768 at 87 Hz? The hardware is the same, except the mouse. I had to buy a new one, beause the old doesn't work since openSUSE 11.3 It's now a Logitech RX 250.

May anyone write an xorg.conf that will work?

Did you try just using the old xorg.conf file?

Did you try nvidia-xconfig without a xorg.conf file. Because the original one does not look right to me.

You should not have a xorg.conf file on a new install. It is no longer required in most cases.

At the _DOS_ prompt? Hum, then you have to reinstall linux, I'm afraid.
We know nothing about that Microsoft DOS thing. >:-)
