    Question dvdbackup won't install on Lenovo T61 under openSUSE 11.0

    Hi,

    When installing dvdbackup as root:
    rpm -i dvdbackup-0.30-0.pm.0.i586.rpm
    I get this error message;

    warning: dvdbackup-0.30-0.pm.0.i586.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key
    ID 9a795806
    error: Failed dependencies:
    libdvdread.so.3 is needed by dvdbackup-0.30-0.pm.0.i586

    libdvdread.so.3 is in directories /usr/lib and in usr/lib64.

    Where does dvdbackup want libdvdread.so.3?

    Thanks beforehand and best regards.

    H.

    It looks to me that you are installing the wrong dvdbackup. You are trying to install a 32-bit dvdbackup, with a 64-bit libdvdread. Should you not try to find a 64-bit dvdbackup?

    I am not a 64-bit user, so this is speculation on my part.

    Hi there and thanks,

    >>>32-bit dvdbackup, with a 64-bit libdvdread.

    That's what I thought, too. Will try to find one.
    Any idea where?

    However, I have simply installed dvdbackup with rpm's --nodeps option and now it seems to work. I haven't checked the copy of the DVD I ripped, yet.

    Will try to get a 64-bit version, nonetheless.

    Regards.

    Heinrich

    64-bit libdvdread from here:
    Index of /distribution/11.0/repo/oss/suse/x86_64

    64-bit dvdbackup from here:
    Index of /suse/11.0/x86_64

    I recommend you take some time and familiarize yourself with the main Packman site:
    PackMan :: home
    Note on the Packman site, the tab for search, has an excellent internal search engine.

    I also recommend you familiarize yourself with the webpin search engine:
    Webpin - openSUSE search engine
    I personally do not use the webpin one-click install, but I do use (on an adhoc short term repos addition/removal basis) the repositories that it lists with various applications that I have located by searching.
