    Try this. In the file /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager add:

    DISPLAYMANAGER_ROOT_LOGIN_LOCAL="yes"

    Give thanks to jbehre, he posted the solution in the application forum, and how he found it :-)

    Hi i am also facing similar problems...can't login via gui for "root". I tried to change the /etc/usr/share/kde4/kdm/kdmrc file and set AllowRootLogin = true, but that too did not help. Please help me out a way...I am the only user of my laptop and thats why I want root access to gui as well! I am facing this problem only after I updated to KDE 4.5.1 from KDE 4.4.4 in my openSUSE 11.3 system. I can login to File manager super user mode and the terminal mode.

    You need to adjust another variable, explained on another post. Check it.

    Just a note that it is never required to login to a GUI as root. It has been reported multiple times that doing so can change permissions to critical files in a users directory preventing him to log in. So if you really do this regularly please be aware.
