    New forum software and new forum functionality. With an upgrade to our software, we now have added content management (articles) and blog functionality to our community to supplement our forums . The forum staff is now able to create articles that work hand in hand with our forums with the most relevant and important information the community needs when working with openSUSE. We will also have the ability to take forum posts that provide information the community feels is valuable and promote them to articles. Articles will be tagged Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced and will be located in the appropriate section for easy navigation. The blogs will contain information from the staff that is interesting, but not necessarily worthy of a permanent article.

    You can navigate between forums, articles, and blogs easily using the links above. We hope these improvements will add value to the community. We appreciate your participation with us here.

      So with the new functionality, do we also loose our navigation?

      With every forum change, my access to subscribed threads gets moved elsewhere as does my access to my profile. Can't find view subscribed threads anywhere now.

      For your profile, click on "My Profile" in the upper right-hand corner (that's where I see it). You can also click on your login name in the top bar to get there.

      For subscribed threads, I find it under "Forum"->"Quick Links"->"Subscribed Threads".

      Subscriptions have moved under the SETTINGs link. Unfortunately the settings link has gone AWOL so we'll get that back. In the meantime: http://forums.opensuse.org/usercp.php We're still crossing the T's and dotting the I's.

      I hate to seem ungrateful for the help, but there was nothing wrong with how viewing subscribed threads worked before. I also wonder just how much testing has been done with the modifications said to "improve" the forum. Is it the only way to test such changes is live on live people using the openSUSE forums?

      Remember everything dealing with these forums is a 'volunteer' effort. We have a development server we do everything on before we upgrade the production server. However, since we pull header and footer information from the openSUSE web site and there are a few server configuration differences with that, we usually run into issues on production when we install on that box. We catch those and work through them as fast as we can. In this case, there are a few things missing so we're building a new sub-header to show them which we'll probably have ready today or tomorrow.

Was the removal of the Settings option next to My Profile, which used to link us to http://forums.opensuse.org/usercp.php actually removed by accident as well as having both the user name and My Profile buttons send you to the same location?

      That seems to have disappeared (or else I am going blind). And I wondered what it did.

      Making a blog out of an individual post was probably a bad idea, so I'm not bothered that it disappeared. But there does still seem to be a blog facility that I would like to hear more about. Perhaps I will test it soon. I have been blogging elsewhere, with a few of the blog posts related to computing and opensuse. So I suppose that when I do that, I could also blog it here.

      Yup disappeared here too so we are both going blind.

      I think that feature might be useful when I post a HOWTO. I wouldn't post about what I ate for lunch (I have other blogs for that sort of trivia .

      No nrickert, I am not seeing the same thing. Notifications/Inbox goes here: "http://forums.opensuse.org/private.php" and there is nothing else there unless you have a notification which is not the same as the old settings which takes you here: "http://forums.opensuse.org/usercp.php". Please notice that these are not the same places. Also My Profile takes me here: "http://forums.opensuse.org/members/jdmcdaniel3.html" which identical to selecting my name: "http://forums.opensuse.org/members/jdmcdaniel3.html". Thus taking out settings while still having two selections left that are identical.

      OK, very intuitive I am sure. Everyone should pick right up on that way to get there, after they are told about it. I shall be more careful to read the fine details next time. Sorry...

      Intuitive enough for me. But that's because my normal browsing habit is to use middle-click. What traps me, are the links that don't work right with middle-click.

      I expect that the problem will be fixed. But the middle-click trick works in the meantime.

      Check out the openSUSE-CMS style (selectable at the bottom). There's a few more tweaks to make, but it's almost ready.
