I loaded RC1 onto my Dell E1505.

1. Gfx driver thoughts: First it was nice to see RadeonHD installed automatically, hopefully the new 3d code makes it for the final version. 2d perormance was pretty good. Although mythtv struggled, im not sure but it seems maybe xvideo isnt mature in the RadeonHD driver.
I went to install fgrlx from the repo, but it came back with a missing kernel dependicy. Did a search and a few others have seen it too.

2. Wireless: Oh so close, it seemed like the driver that came with RC1 was working, but it never could detect or connect to any networks. Well NDISwrapper easily fixed that problem. I have a Broadcom 43XX (or 41XX cant remember)

Overall I like this version, I plan to replace my mythtv box running 10.2 with 11. I am though watching to see that Nvidia driver bug to go away.
It will be nice to have the new package managment, 10.2 is slow...

I installed RC1 on my ancient Dell Inspiron 8000 yesterday after Ubutnu Hardy failed to recognize my display and since I could not get a network connection wired or wireless.

On initial boot of RC1 I noticed that my sound driver was no longer working when this had never been a problem for Suse on this laptop in the past.

Networking needs to be configured yet. I didn't have time to mess with it yesterday. Once I get connected by wired then I'll grab the madwifi driver and get my wireless working if it works.

I installed the gnome version this time around. I got the root password bug on initial boot. Ohter than that I haven't played with it so not sure if I have other problems.

I tried building the fglrx RPM, i used the 10.3 package, still no 3d. I have some failures in my xorg log, about it not being able to find the fglrx module. I believe this usually happens when the kernel doesnt match the module. Probally not going to spend much time on it, as I will do a reinstall with the final version.

If anyone has loaded the closed Nvidia driver, I be very insterested in the results.

Well, I found out why I wasn't getting a wired network connection. My ethernet jack on my laptop isn't working. SON OF A B!

You could get a usb adapter to get you by until you can enable the wireless.

It isn't necessary. I have a D-Link pcmcia ethernet card somewhere in my goody box down in my basement. Good thing I keep stuff like that. I think it's time for a new laptop.

Well a little update on my experiences. I have a working fglrx driver and aiglx was setup automatically! That also means I have compiz working after a simple change in the KDE settings.
My network HP printer is working, the first driver didnt work but the second did. I think I ended up using hpji or something like that.

I have to say this release is the best so far. Never I have I ever setup an ATI board and not had to modify the xorg.conf. Making the simple change in KDE to allow for compiz to take over is just amazing.
Now that AIGLX is there, no more XGL. I was actually able to play an opengl game at normal speeds.

If my wireless would have worked without ndiswrapper, it would have been perfect. It wold have been nice not to have to build fglrx, but it's expected with this only being the RC1 release.

how did you get compiz to work? I just downloaded and installed RC1. The kernel is 2.6.25.4-8-default and the NVIDIA driver is NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.05-pkg1.run.

I ran the .run from console and it couldn't find headers for my kernel. I tried the option of letting it compiling its own, and it required me to have the source for the kernel, and to ensure it is properly configured. Any suggestions?

this board won't allow me to post links, but I think you can figure it out:

I did it with ATI fglrx driver not the nvidia driver. I want to be able to install the nvidia driver on another pc, but im awaiting the final release of opensuse 11. I also asked if anyone has gotten it to work.
