when running /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl I get:

Your kernel was built with "gcc" version "4.3.1", while you are trying to use
"/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.3". This configuration is not recommended and VMware
Player may crash if you'll continue. Please try to use exactly same compiler as
one used for building your kernel. Do you want to go with compiler
"/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.3" anyway?

But the result of "gcc --version" is:
gcc (SUSE Linux) 4.3.1 20080507 (prerelease) [gcc-4_3-branch revision 135036]

if I run the configuration program anyhow I get errors:
Using 2.6.x kernel build system.

Is thsi a VMware problem with the 4.3 compiler? Or something else?

thanks,

Just guessing as I am not running the Beta. How did you install the Player was it from the rpm was it the .src package? You might try the source and see if it works. Have you used the latest player? Try reinstalling gcc and see if that helps.
As a last attempt you might try the VMware Forum and see if anyone has a answer.

Do not know if any of that will help but good luck!

Edit: Just noticed that this Beta you are using might be a upgrade rather than a clean install, if that is the case there may be reminates from the previous install messing with this.

RESOLVED - Checked the VMware community and it appears that there's an issue with the 2.6.25 kernel. Initially I serached on Suse 11.0 which resulted in nada but using "2.6.25" brought up that there is a problem and then Googling brought up some patches.

I'm using this here http://blog.creonfx.com/linux/how-to-insta...-on-2625-kernel procedure - note: when running the script it gives a "hunk' error but vmware-config.pl ran fine and VMplayer runs and connects to the net and seems to run fine

regards,
