I have recently tried to install some packages from Factory on my OpenSuse 10.3, and I also got this "Bad magic" error. So I think it's a problem with Factory, rather than with Suse.

To be honest, I have no idea at all, as I use the Factory repo very rarely, after having some bad experiences with it
![]() OpenSuse Wiki contains information about mailing list (http://en.opensuse.org/Factory_Distributio...ry_Distribution), maybe it's a good idea to post it there

The cpio bad magic error is a simple fix of updating "rpm" package itself.

http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/....2-183.i586.rpm this should fix your problem. it is due to how the new kernel is compiled. Choose the right architect though. good luck |

I have found that out of all the Repos I added from their Repository site using 10.3 repo's etc + using the automatic tool in yast that Maybe only 1 or 2 Repo's if lucky worked ,& all the rest gave me the Bad Magic error.
I cant believe this has been going on for so long after all the complaints on all the Suse Forums I have searched & nothing has been done. It makes it preety useless to do an upgrade or even update pkgs etc if needed. The worse part about it is ,it Downloads the Packages first one by one before it finds the error which means not only do you have to cancel each pkg one by one but if you downloaded a large pkg like a game Data pkg etc you have to wait til its finished downloading it to find out if its OK.. I hope Suse fixes this soon as it can be hell trying to install pkgs using command line with dependencies instead. AnyWay I think its more than just to do with Factory as I never had this problem before using 10.3 repositopries that I can remember & not just the 11 repos or what ever they are. |
