Today I tried OpenSuse 10.3 b2 on my Lenovo R61. I was interested because it is said to have support for the Intel 4965AGN wireless card. I have done some Linux beta testing in the past so I kind of have an idea what to expect from a beta. Here is what I found.
The first thing I noticed was during the install it instructs you to put in the add-ons cd but it never tells you when to eject it so the install fails becuase it cannot find the install cd. I had to install without the add-ons cd.
I had a partition ready for the install (sda7) but it insisted on using a partition with an existing installation in it(sda5).
After the install completed it wanted to configure so I configured the wireless card but the settings would not stick. I configured the video and rebooted but after X started I was presented with a blank screen.
I booted a live linux cd and tried to edit the xorg.conf file (to vesa) to no avail, so I reinstalled. This time I let the configuration go through with the defaults. Same result, a blank screen.
Then I tried to boot back to one of my previous installs of Linux Mint and I found that it would not boot anymore. So next I tried to boot XP but it wouldn't boot either. <_< I finally booted to a live cd and repaired grub using the conf file from my linux mint install so now I am back where I started. OpenSuse is still installed in sda7 but it is unusable for now.
Any suggestions on getting it to work with the Nvidia 140M graphics?
