OK...found the mount point....so it's doable, but certainly strage and different!
The CD's (and presumably floppy's and maybe even flashdrives.....haven't checked that yet) actually mount on /var/adm/mount!!!!! How they came up with THAT is a mystery to me.... but the file systems DO show up there on mtab and any file manager/command line....I knew that they had to be SOMEWHERE.... Anyway, I'm thinking that I like the old ways of manually mounting file systems...this is always so confusing as each release they do this differently....geez. |

Lo and Behold....if I am persistant enough, the CD will unmount and eject
by pushing the eject button on the CD drive...eventually. This will have to get cleaned up... I have the system installed the way I like it now...and other than the above caveats....it's running fine....I think we will like this release once out... |

I was able to mutle my way through the install and it looks very nice, but I am having trouble getting my network up. I am installing it on my laptop and have a linksys pcmcia wireless card. Previous editions I have used ndiswrapper to use my network card, but when I try to set it up now I get an error "Fatal Error: Module Not Found" when I try to modprobe ndiswrapper. Ndiswrapper was able to install my driver, when I list drivers it shows the driver and hardware present. I tried modprobe -l and there was no ndiswrapper.ko. Anyone else having this problem or have any suggestions?

Beta 5 hasn't improved the package manager or eject problems, but at least it shuts down again without the root password!
Eject is raised as a bug: 152080 Intallation Sources problem is raised as a bug: 152085 These are on the bugzilla.novell.com site. The web page you get for the online updates, if you look closely isn't a Novell web page, it is localhost ![]() They are just using a web front end to access it... Not sure what was wrong with the old method, but there you go... Saying that it does look a little smarter and more modern. ![]() You can also use the Zen updater tool (think this is also what the statusbar doohickey is about as well. But as the online update sources haven't been made yet, it doesn't do much ![]() The mounting of media to the new location is a pain, and it is part of the new automount manager they introduced with Beta 4 (they have included a lot of stuff in Beta 4 that should only be included at internal testing or alpha testing stages, the dev's admit this, but say the pressure is coming from above E.g. the new package manager will be rolled out with the next SLES and therefore needs to be implemented and tested in SUSE Linux first, not a good start for the community version ). Let's hope this is a one-off and the next version will be better controlled.Bobmeister, are you reporting the problems you find on the bugzilla system? |
