Hello all.
I have just started with Suse 10.3 and I'm trying to get my wireless working. After installation, inside of Yast, network card, my Linksys WMP54G was automatically detected. However, when I click on the configure it tells me that I need to upgrade my firmware.

It appears to be using a ralink rt61 driver. I have downloaded Ralink's latest linux firmware for my chipset but I'm at a loss as to what to do with it?

You probably need to copy the firmware to: /lib/firmware

Any easy way to do this, if you're not familiar with the Linux command line, is to use the Super User File Manager - found in Applications -> System -> File Manager. You'll need to enter the root password to proceed.

Right click on the firmware file, select Copy to... and navigate through Root folder -> lib -> firmware and select copy.

Then reboot.

Hope this helps. Paul

Thanks for the suggestion. From what I can tell, that must have done something. But it is still not entirely working. If I iwlist, I get a listing of all of the surrounding networks. So my nic is talking with the os.

And when I ifconfig I get:

Quote:
wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1C:10:6A:38:73
inet addr:192.168.0.100 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::21c:10ff:fe6a:3873/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:311 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:84 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:97152 (94.8 Kb) TX bytes:14716 (14.3 Kb)[/b]
The inet addy should be right. What is the Bcast? Is that the gateway addy? If so, then that is not right. I have tried making changes under Routing inside of Yast, but the Bcast stays the same. :huh:
