I have just installed Suse 10.1 and am trying to configure my Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop to connect to my wireless router. Having no success.
The Yast Network Card List of Configurable Devices shows"Intel Pro Wireless 3945 ABG Network Connection DHCP" which matches the product spec for my laptop
But when I click on the Network Manager icon , it says no network connection.
My router is in full working order
I tried plugging in an Ethernet cable and still no luck
I am a real newbie to the world of Linux and would appreciate some help!

welcome to the forum! have you tried to configure your grahpics card in Yast control center? (its in the menu) SuSE 10.1 has a broken package managment system, so if u have a good connection, best to download 10.3 http://software.opensuse.org/

i wish people would stop saying this. it is NOT broken. it is slower than 10.2 & 10.3 but still works

as for the wireless problem, make sure ipw firmware is installed & have a read of this http://wiki.suselinuxsupport.de/wikka.php?...oConfigWifiCard

have u read? http://spinink.net/conversation-with-new-suse-user/

Since SuSE 10.1 was released, almost ALL of my time in #SuSE has been spent explaining why the package management is broken and what can be done to fix it. As one can imagine, this is NOT my idea of contributing to the SuSE community. Doing damage control for someone else’s disastrous mistakes is less than rewarding. In fact, it is a royal pain in the ***. The users experiencing these issues are already upset and are not always appreciative of your efforts to help them. The package management issues with the SuSE 10.1 release are raised in the channel an average of 6-10 times per day! This results in myself and other regulars, whom are normally more than happy to help new users, becoming jaded and apathetic.

also why would they make a new release (a second GM!!) if this wasnt broken, its not just slow, it says "ZMD does not appear to be running and such, imho: its best to upgrade, rather than to start with a old system. suse 10.1 is next to be discontinued, for a new user, a old system with problems is going to be more of a problem than a new shiney fast stable 10.3, i hope you understand.

EDIT: fast swerdna
imho, look and how many problems for "zen-updater" in search, a wooping 22 pages of just results... http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.ph...ater&st=525

nope, only used smart for multimedia, used zmd/YoU for the rest or the cli. if you did the updates during install, there were no problems
anyway no point in arguing, need to solve the o.p's problem

Andy.
