Thumbs up

I have just made a clean install of SUSE 10.3 and then tried to install my wireless router (D-Link G520B) using Andrew D's method. In NDISGTK the driver installs and then when I left click on "Configure Network" nothing happens so I went to Yast / Network Devices / Network Card and configured that way. The connection does not work. Went to Konsole and root then entered lsmod. Ndiswrapper did appear on the list.

Any ideas? I was able to install the same driver for this card under 10.2.

All the best,

I can't help with the ndis wrapper. Does your G520 have an atheros chipset?

There is a DLlink DWL G520 (B3 with atheros chipset) running on my wife's 10.3 using the madwifi. Works great.

Instructions here:
http://en.opensuse.org/Atheros_madwifi

Make certain that kernel-source, madwifi, and madwifi-kmp-<your kernel flavor> (or latest version) are installed. Then start the module with: modprobe ath_pci
and then go to YAST > Network Devices > Network card and configure.

It was very smooth setting up for us.

I think I would like to stay with ndiswrapper as I am somewhat familiar with the process.

What I would like to know is why, after installing the driver with NDISGTK, I was unable to proceed to configuration after left-clicking on the button.

I am tempted to make another clean install.

Is there anything I should know that is different from 10.2 when using Yast to configure the card?

All the best,

You don't need to do a clean install to fix a driver or anything else for that matter
Just do as oldcpu suggested and it will work

Solved the problem with help from andrewd18.

We have a combination DSL modem / wireless router. My wife's computer is connected to the modem and I pick up the wireless signal with my Air-Link DWL G520B. I remembered the DSL modem / wireless router has a firewall built in and I had disabled the firewall on the XP side of my machine. Now I have disabled the firewall on the Linux side and the connection is working fine.

Thank you andrewd.

All the best,

lithops
