I'm new to linux. I love the interface of openSUSE 10.3 and everything about it. I consider myself to be more than adequate when it comes to windows xp and mac. I had one class in visual basic and c++ but thats it. But now I might just give up on linux all together because I just can't get my netgear wg311t to install with madwifi.
Here's the deal:
I used 1-click install for Yast...everything went ok
If I go into software management I see "madwifi" in the installed column
I rebooted (to be safe) and went to "network card" ...nothing except my wired connection
tried to search for "modprobe ath_pci" in root and I get "FATAL: Module ath_pci not found."
I have tried many different approaches for 3 days and now I'm stuck..here's some info

32bit or 64bit SuSE ? if 64bit,you will have lots of problems with wireless, as not many 64bit drivers work very well

I put on 32-bit openSUSE. I did the one-click install and everything went ok. but...

I cant find a kmp that matches my "2.6.22.5-31-default"
and I've been getting this error a lot
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
/bin/sh: cc: command not found
Makefile.inc:81: *** Cannot detect kernel version - please check compiler and KERNELPATH. Stop.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
whats this mean?
