i was just reading through Broch's tips on reducing boot time etc and found that he mentioned about disabling apparmor. i did a little searching and found that some people said apparmor was a little over the top. all i use my linux machine for is all the usual, browse the net, do my banking, watch videos etc etc, is apparmor neccessary? i have it running, but have no real idea how to use it. do i/should i use it?

AppArmor is not necessary. It's a security framework similar to SELinux and most people disable it. It's only useful for corporations/servers

it is designed to protect programs and other local stuff like servers so that they don't get exploited. If configured correctly, AppArmor controls the amount of access a program is assigned to. If that program tries to gain more access than its allowed, AppArmor blocks it
