Ok, cleanator.com keeps popping up !

I'm running Suse 10.2 64 bit version and Firefox.

I didn't think this was possible !!!

Any ideas or suggestions from anyone how to fix this?

does it keep popping up when you visit specific websites, or any websites? because I'd be VERY surpirised if it was actually a trojan, because, if you have not been logging in as root it can't install without your permission (by giving root password).

Im logged in as a user and I've not pin-pointed any site which might have done it. I'll keep track of my history and double check...

Many thanks for responding !

You might try flushing your Cache ( Edit> Preferences>Advance>Network Tab). also check in Security: Warn me when sites try to install Add ons, is checked.

I did A GOOGLE SEARCH ON "cleanator.com" ---
Symantic has a web page about it.
This looks like a Windows infection, not linux.

You might want to do the google search, and read some of the stuff that shows up.

EDIT: You might want to take a look
at a thread I just started in off topic

Mattb may be onto something.....Do you have no script installed? you know there are a few ways to get redirections, using plugins such as flash ... I seriously, seriously doubt you have a trojan. a while back I was suffering redirects as well, an update to no script stop that behavior. check this site for some clues, may help may not, but a trojan on a linux system (taking into account no foolishness has taken place and it is well configured) doesn't seem like the worry here. just out of curiosity what extensions do you have installed?

plugin security blah blah

a little more to feed the monster under the bed

The following was all performed on virtualbox guest os's running on a linux 10.2 host

Started suse 10.3
downloaded Cleanator; firefox would not run it; all it would do was download it. The downloaded file was an .exe file, not executable on linux.

Started windows/xp
downloaded Cleanator and installed it.
on install it automatically started scanning windows. (This windows is almost a clean install). It claimed to have found over 1000 dangerous items that needed to be cleaned. It wanted me to purchase a license to do the cleaning. When I thought I was shutting down cleanator, what it actually did was minimize it but keep it running; also the default was to start it automatically on boot.
If a license had not be purchased it frequently poped up a window urging you to purchase a license.

How are you getting an ".EXE" file to run on linux?
