I looked around the forums but could not find this exact topic addressed. Can anybody provide a link of how to setup a firewall for a general user? I am using opensuse 10.3 on my laptop. Generally this is just for web surfing and overall security. I have a linksys router which is how I connect my laptop to the net and it has a h/w firewall. I only worry about open air connections like wi-fi spots at the airport, malls, etc.

thanks for any help

You just need to ensure that Susefirewall2 is running. It is usually on by default. You can verify by bringing up YAST -> Security -> firewall.

Susefirewall2 is pretty much nailed down by default.

running the default firewall which comes with openSuSe will be sifficient and secure enough; as long as you don't log in as root and have a good root password then all should be well. the firewall should be set to run auto on boot up, if not check with yast.
