SuSE 10.2/KDE, one PC(32), one user, cable modem, no router

I am quite new to Linux and SuSE. Questions:

While installing SuSE I set up two accounts, myself with full access and guest with limited access. The password I set up then I use when logging in. It is also the password the system asks for when doing some root thing like going into YAST. DOES THIS MEAN THAT NORMALLY I AM NOT WORKING AS ROOT BUT ONLY WHEN I HAVE BEEN ASKED FOR MY ROOT PASSWORD, EVEN THOUGH THE SIGNING-IN AND ROOT PASSWORDS ARE ONE AND THE SAME?

Apparently, a default firewall is set up when installing. Considering my simple situation, is that enough? The installer did not turn on IPsec. Should I turn it on?

Do I need an anti-virus application? Here I was hoping that when using Linux I would not have to worry about such matters..........

Thank you for your advice.
