When I go to file manager and click on root, I get the message, "You do not have permissions to use this folder" In the User Management I have added root to the permistted list, but still the same error.

I have to setup a software in root folder

Well, you don't really want to use anything in the /root directory as a normal user, neither chmod it. If no one but root can access /root it surely must be for a good reason.
If you really need to get into it AND you know what your are doing then you can become root and access anything.
Take a look here and here.
Hope it clarifies something.

Thanks, I was able to login to root. BUT when I tried installing the file ( as per the instructions I had to run install.sh) but there was no success. Everytime it said File not foundThe files were in tar and I extracted the files to root folder. From there I tried all the things but unsuccesful.

Please help. i am totally a new user to LINUX

what file are you trying to install ? a look at my own reminder may help, see attached.be warned, if you bork your setup, don't scream at me, it is just my reminder on certain steps to take, not an official howto.

I have downloaded the file and will check it now, But am finding LINUX very confusiing, but am prepared to use it. I was able to run the install.sh file and it was successful, but where the installed file is now, I do not know. I am attaching the software that I wish to install. It is for setting up a broadband client. If possible please help

looks like all you have to do now, as you managed to install it, is run the command, in a console, sifyd, then sifyconnect --login, to get it running & connected
