I'm using SuSE 10.1 with Gnome and a Grub boot loader. Whenever I login I'm automatically logged into a specific user's account. How can I change this default user?

Thanks Andy, I don't know how I didn't see that one. Just to be inquisitive, does anyone know an easy way to do this from the CLI?

Offhand, I would say no...because it's a GUI login issue with kdm or
whatever you are using...I don't think that there is anything such as autologin on the CLI...as you'll always come up with a straight loging prompt instead if going into a non-GUI mode.... That said...there is probably a way to edit the configuration file that sets up autologin from the CLI of course, if we can find that file....which is probably in the /etc directory somewhere... The file is /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager and you'll see a line for "autologin" that is empty if you have no auto logine (" ")...but if you have a user in there, it will autologin them....that is the file that YAST is changing... so you wouldhave to open that file up with vi or your favorite editor (as you see what mine is!) and just edit the file.... 90 percent of what Yast does is just edit files for you...all of it can be done on the command line and manually edited... as long as you know what file and where it is.... I use YAST for when it's easy....sometimes it's faster and easier to go straight to the file...as in the known hosts file...for adding hosts on your network...or nfs exports...it's really fast and easy to just edit the file. Have fun!!!! |
