/etc/exports file generated by "NFS SERVER" in YAST:
Quote:
/home/felipe/Music (fsid=0,ro,root_squash,sync,no_subtree_check)
[/b]
client /etc/fstab generated by "NFS CLIENT" in YAST:
Quote:
anarchy:/home/felipe/Music /media/Music nfs defaults 0 0
[/b]
I get permission denied whenever I try to connect.

All shares have 755 permissions and permissions for user "felipe" (same username (and UID=1000) on both client and server machines). Client's /media/Music is owned by root and mode 755

Just suggestions:
Same uername and uid, also same group and GID?
What when Clients /media/Music is owned by felipe:group-of-felipe ?

It shouldn't matter, since root is issuing 'mount' command on client machine. I'll give it a go tomorrow and see what flourishes.

You talk about 'connect'. I interpreted this as follows:

You did not say it did not mount, you did say access (to the data) was denied (to felipe I suppose).

When it does not mount (performed by the kernel, not by root), please say so, then we have a different problem then I thought it was.

You're right. My title isn't clear. It fails to mount completely.

Any errors when you type (as root) in a terminal mount -a ?

No error executing 'mount -a'
When I cd into directory and ls I get: ls: reading directory .: Input/output error
And 'nfs' and 'portmap' are "status: running"

Strange, when it is not mounted you should be able to cd on the client to /media/Music without problems. Normaly this should be empty (when it is not, this not a problem though).

To be sure, on the client in a terminal as root type umount /media/Music. Then cd /media/Music and do a ls. Is that different?
(do a cd to somewhere else before and afterwards, you don't want to be there during mount/umount attempts).

When unmounted "ls" is fine. When "mounted" I get "I/O error" noted above.

It seems that I go for a (well earned ) sleep when you answer and vv. So our 'solving speed' is minimal.

Let us see where we are.

. The place where you want to mount on the client seems to be OK.

. Mounting seems to do something. You could check by (again typing as root in a terminal window) mount -t nfs and/or df. Both will show the mount.

. Then on to the server. There are two nfs server packages in the repo. I vaguely remember somebody else had problems that went away when he used the same as I do: nfs-kernel-server.
To check this goto YaST > Software Management and type nfs in the search field. You will get among others:
nfs-kernel-server - Support Utilities for Kernel nfsd
nfs-server - User Space NFS Server Daemons
When you have the second one installed, uninstall and install the first one. May be it will be better to stop NFS-server first by going to YaSt > System > System Services (runlevel), look for nfsserver, select, disable and Finish. After the unistall/install mentioned above Enable again.

Hope this helps or at least gives us some more clues.

Edit: The above is on openSUSE 10.3
