don't know why it's doing that, someone else here will, but instead of reboot try

ifdown (device)
ifup (device)

in a console. where (device) could be eth0 for example. this worked for a problem i had with wireless sometimes where i couldn't reconnect properly.

this hopefully will stop you having to reboot until someone else can help.

It would be helpful to know the state of the network device before and after the connection is lost.
After the network is restarted, do ...
Code:
ifconfig
.. and save the output.

After the connection is dropped, do the same thing again and post both of the results back here.
