Hello everybody,

For our integrated task for hardware we need to set up a server which a LinuxClient and a windowsclient can log in to...

We have already configured LDAP for LinuxClients, but we just can't figure out what to do with the windowsclient and we can't find information about it on the internet! We know that we have to use SAMBA, but do not know the specific configurations on the WindowsClient and the LinuxServer.

Can somebody please help us out!! We are actually desperite!
The windowsClient just needs to login to the OpenSuse-server... That's all.. So no shares or something like that... We just need t o login to the OpenSuse-server with our WindowsClient

We have already tried to follow these instruction (http://www.tweakhound.com/linux/samba/page_1.htm) but afterwards, we found out that this wasnot the guide to make a windowsClient connect to our Open Suse server!

We have a really short deadline and we hope to receive a very quick answer!!

Thanks for everybody who will try to help us and to find the solution!!
We are a little bit familliar with Linux, but are still quite noobs!!

Please don't mind the mistakes in English (We are from Belgium BTW )

We really hope that you can help us out!!

Thanks a million!!

Are you trying to just get windows to have access to the LDAP information, or are you trying to authenticate windows to a linux domain controller using LDAP to hold the authentication information?

First of all, we would like to thank you for helping us!!
I do not really understand your question, but We just want a windowsComputer to log in on the LinuxServer with the information from LDAP!!

We already have users inserted into the database of LDAP en we want that a WindowsComputer can log in into the linuxServer with the user from LDAP...

Which way is the best way?!

We are willing to try "NoMachine" in the previous reply, we I think that we also can get access on the linuxserver with LDAP!! That would be really great if we could do that!!

Thank you very much for the reply!!!

Okay, let me ask the question a different way.
What do you require LDAP for.
Do you ...

Want to simply give windows users access to a shared database (an address book for example.

Want to use LDAP to authenticate users in order that they can access shared files.

Want LDAP to be the domain controller user database, so that users will not be able to log on to their windows machines unless LDAP says they have authenticated.

This is perfectly described!!!
We only have to log on on the server... that's it!! So no shared files or maps or anything....

Thanks for the effort you put into this question!!!

We really appreciate it!!!

See http://www.linewbie.com/2008/01/configure-...ubuntu-710.html . It uses LDAP and Samba but it has the functionality you are looking for.

It really looks like it can help us!! We will try it as soon as possible, because we don't have much time because of all the other task which we have to make for our integrated task!!

Thank you soooo much!! We appreciate it!

And we would also like to thank everybody who has helped us!!

If you know something else how we can make this happen, please let us know!!

Kind regards!
