I'm running SuSE 10.3 as a router. I'm in a remote area, and until now I have used a dialup connection as an internet source. I have just had Hughes Net installed, not because I think it is great, but because it should be faster than dialup.

I need to change the router's source of the internet from the modem to the LAN card connected to the Hughes modem. Where (and how) do I make this change?

Does anyone know if I will have a problem with Hughes using the same addresses I'm using internally? That is, they are addressed as 192.168.0.1, which is the same address I use for my router?

Many thanks!

computers connected to the router should be ok. if you have set the router correctly, everything should just run fine. i don't know what hughes sent you as i don't use them, but, it would be set up something like this

internet -> modem/router -> pc's
or
internet -> Hughes modem -> router -> pc's

The second option you cite is what I have. At least some of the problem appears to be that SuSE is still using the dialup modem as the internet interface. Hughes comes in on a LAN, and shoud look like DSL to SuSE. Thus, a part of my question is, "how to I convince SuSe to stop looking at the dialup modem for the internet, and start looking at ETH0?"

fairly simple, just go to YaST & delete the configuration for the dial-up modem

Thanks, that did it! I knew it couldn't be too involved.
