Hi
You have to excuse me, I'm a complete newbie with SuSe and related things. Anyway, I got 10.3 (I think, I'm at school so I can't really check at the moment but I'm 90% certain) and when I installed (open)Suse on my computer I couldn't connect to Internet while I installed the thing but now it appears as though our Internet troubles at home (we have this router thing that's been messing with us) are over and I'm very keen on getting Internet on my PC.

I have two network cards on my computer (apparently) and well... I don't have a modem. I have broadband (I don't know if this is a term that's used internationally or if my direct translation from Swedish was successful ) anyway... and there's all these things about ISPD or something and all these stuff that I don't understand and I guess I have an idea that I should probably fill in some information there but I have no idea how to get those things.

My mother is clueless about computers and her knowledge extends to opening and sending emails and she has no idea what kind of Internet we got or anything about that.

So I hope that I'm turning to wiser heads than my mother now when I ask:

a) How do install Internet?
B ) How do I get the information necessary to get Internet on my computer?

Again, you probably think I'm a total moron for not understanding anything but... I'm willing to learn. Points for effort, right? I hope I posted this at the right place.

seeing as there is a queue of staff watching

1 ) open a console
2 ) type /sbin/lspci -v & press enter
3 ) post the output of the above command & we will see about drivers.

if you use a usb device for wireless
1 ) open a console
2 ) su to root
3 ) type lsusb & post the output here. device *must * be inserted before issuing command

Oh, you saved me from an embarrassing question - thank you Also, you're all so terribly kind to me and I really appreciate it. I can imagine it being rather dull trying to explain some very basic stuff to someone who doesn't know anything

EEeek. Copy and paste? *runs to borrow my sister's USB*

(btw, sorry it took so long for me to reply, I had to get back from school and well... get that USB thing and transfer the codes I got when using the console)

You mean the router? Or the network card? Well, the network card I have two of so don't ask me what that means but the router is a really recent TP-Link thing (some Chinese/Japanese company - very tricky thing).

If I'm being particularly stupid today I blame it on the fact that I had a five hour long test yesterday that ate away my brain cells It's all just so incredibly daunting.

it was the network card i was after, not to worry, i reckon, on what you previously posted, you may have an atheros based wireless device. if i am correct, you need the drivers from madwifi http://madwifi.org/suse/10.3/i586/ failing that, you could use ndiswrapper following my how-to here http://stuntmanandy.no-ip.biz/Howto%27s.html just scroll down to the ndiswrapper section. or you could use andrew18's how-to http://www.andrewd18.com/ndiswrapper/

Ok, so I just need to download one file from the first link you posted, or several? Then install it with Yast on my computer and... then Internet will work? *hides*
