When I first installed SuSE on my machine (specs below) and it got to the part about where it logs onto the internet to update, the process failed and I got this error:
"DHCP client is already running on eth0" I have not yet been able to connect to the internet. Here are some results: ifconfig: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:08:A1:1D:C8:52 inet addr:24.18.235.173 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.248.0 inet6 addr: fe80::208:a1ff:fe1d:c852/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:963 errors:1 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:18 errors:6 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:6 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:61276 (59.8 Kb) TX bytes:1636 (1.5 Kb) Interrupt:11 Base address:0xd800 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:42 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:42 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:2708 (2.6 Kb) TX bytes:2708 (2.6 Kb) cat /etc/resolv.conf: ### BEGIN INFO # # Modified_by: dhcpcd # Backup: /etc/resolv.conf.saved.by.dhcpcd.eth0 # Process: dhcpcd # Process_id: 4527 # Script: /sbin/modify_resolvconf # Saveto: # Info: This is a temporary resolv.conf created by service dhcpcd. # The previous file has been saved and will be restored later. # # If you don't like your resolv.conf to be changed, you # can set MODIFY_{RESOLV,NAMED}_CONF_DYNAMICALLY=no. The connection works fine in Windows. My Linux firewall is disabled, I've tried disabling IPv6 and enabling the Xinetd network services. No luck. Any ideas what might be wrong? _Patrick |

Something doesn't look right with the reported errors and over-runs.
First suggestion is to remove the nic configuration in Yast, and let Suse pick up the device again. Paul |

If the module used by your eth0 is 'tulip' replace it with 'dmfe'.
To locate the module do YaST>network devices>network card>your_card>edit>advanced>hardware details |
