Thumbs up

When I first installed SuSE on my machine (specs below) and it got to the part about where it logs onto the internet to update, the process failed and I got this error:

"DHCP client is already running on eth0"

I have not yet been able to connect to the internet. Here are some results:

ifconfig:

I am running a Pentium 4 with a Davicom 9102AF NIC with a cable modem (recognized as "Davicom 21x4x DEC Tulip Compatible 10/100 Ethernet DHCP" in SeSU Linux). The connection works fine in Windows. My Linux firewall is disabled, I've tried disabling IPv6 and enabling the Xinetd network services. No luck.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

Something doesn't look right with the reported errors and over-runs.

First suggestion is to remove the nic configuration in Yast, and let Suse pick up the device again.

If the module used by your eth0 is 'tulip' replace it with 'dmfe'.

To locate the module do
YaST>network devices>network card>your_card>edit>advanced>hardware details

It works! Posting this message is the first thing I've done on the internet with Linux. Thanks, folks.
