Hi all,

I have a suse 10 64bit server connected to my workstation whit a corss-link cable. My workstation (windows xp sp2) has a d-link Gbit nic, the server consists of a Asus AV8 whit a onboard Marvell Yucon Gbit nic.

Using the network (samba, bittorrent, xmirc) whit a 2pair cross-link cable gives 100% good, reliable 100mbit connection. Upgrading the cable to 4pair cat6 cross-link makes the server fail networking.

The D-link nic switches to Gbit speed, faster transfer is enabled. Copying files from samba over to my workstation gives a 14% network utilization (scale 1gbit) and 100% cpu load… PoorPoorPoor.
The other way around doesn’t work, it will take like 1000min for some **** file (m$ xp min...).

Ok so performance is poor… now what. I started my torrent client on the server, Azureus. The software failed network initialization whit some vague error. Omg my system suckes
I rebooted a couple of time after changing the module sk98lin options to give the Mavell nic some instructions. Still no success, I am running back on my old 2pair cross-cable at 100mbit till I find a solution.

A penny for your thought...

Could you pls try some boot options independently?like

pci=noirq

pci=routeirq

acpi=off

Also find more options from web.Try them separately

nothing works, i even turned my system usless after modifieing the boot options :/
The fact is this: when i connect my cat 6 kabel in both 1000gb nics reboot my network fails. Cant even get on internet then. Replacing the cable en switching back to 100 works! I m starting to hate my config now.... blody *** linux

Now why is the onboard nic having problems at high speed ?

Some users already reported problems with their marvel yucon cards under suse. So there could be a real 'issue' with the suse OS I suppose.May be they release a driver (module) update of some kind.

So far the issue seems unresolved by any availeble patch/driver.
Where could i make a official bug report then ?

Don't do anything now, 'cause it's of no use. The release of 10.1 final is only a few weeks away(April13). Try 10.1 as soon as it comes out and see if it helps. If you do not have any luck, file a bug report in opensuse.

OK that seems fair enough. But no il submit it now so maybe they can change/fix it for the nxt release.
