hello people i nave just installed opensuse 10.3 and trying to figure out how to run mplayer on it but noting is happening. i have MPlayer-1.0rc2 this version of mplayer tell me if it is correct as i have one rpm install of this as well but when i run it nothing happens after asking for password but still i managed to install it from terminal but still unable to launch the application. so please tell me how to do it as i am a newbie and i dont know much so step by step guide will be appreciated. thanx
and please guide according to latest 10.3 version |

first mplayer itself is a command line tool, not a gui based. If you want to open a gui then you must run "gmplayer" or imo install smplayer which is a most excellent mplayer frontend.
if you still have errors you should run the command from a terminal and copy and paste the errors here |

you should look at http://www.softwareinreview.com/linux_opti...nsuse_10.3.html, maybe the problem is you don't have the required codecs? is w32codec-all installed. What format is the file you're trying to play? Where did you get the mplayer rpm?
what displays if on the command line you type "mplayer video_file_name" ? Have you tried other video players such as vlc and kaffeine? remember that you should use the Packman repository because Suse's packages will not play proprietary codecs due to legal reasons. |
