Thumbs up

hello,
I've installed openSUSE 10.3 w/gnome and am using Amarok to play music. My Mp3's play fine w/xine engine but when playing CD's i get constant drop out and can see constant harddrive activity while cd plays. The playlist for the cd takes forever to load. I tried switching to Yaup engine but that didnt help.Someone had suggested switching to gstreamer engine but I dont have that option in amarok. I tried looking in YAST and it says gstreamer is installed. I looked for an amarok-gstreamer plugin but i get no results. I looked online in packages.opensuse-community.org but also got no results. Does anyone have gstreamer engine working in Amarok and could u explain how u got it installed.
thanx

Think you need amarok-yauap if being the backend of it makes it so.

Well my understanding is that gives you the gstreamer amarok plugin but far from knowing perhaps try, another player.

Think banshee would be more gnome and using gstreamer anyway. If that works then perhaps it is related to amarok.

thanx but i really prefer amarok to anything else. I would like to know why the playlist takes so long to populate. I think that is a symptom of the problem...

It should only take a long time the first time. After that it should be quick.

it's been the same 3-4 minutes for every cd i pop in. And then I see the HD going beserko and the dropouts begin.I checked the CPU utilization and it isnt maxed out @ 100% or close to it...

yep that's the same one I'm using. I'm currently listening to Mp3's, ripping a cd to my collection w/Rhythmbox, running an app in WINE, & have FF open so its not a matter of this PIII being too old...
