i open k9copy, and it starts and opens fine. input device set to my dvd drive. dvd already inserted before i open k9copy and i check it's ok by opening my computer and in sysinfo the dvd appears there. so, all is well, so far. i click 'open' with k9copy and then it just crashes. the screen goes grey (indicating not responding) and my system grinds to a halt. i managed to open ctrl+esc showing tasks and it shows k9copy is using almost 2GB of RAM, and swap has 1GB used. what the hell! after leaving k9copy for about 15minutes (give or take) sometimes the dvd opens and all the titles are listed. i tick the box indicating the dvd i want to copy, then set output to folder, click on copy, it asks where i want to save the folder, so i tell it where i want it, i click ok and then either 1 of 2 things happens. 1 is nothing happens, i get taken back to the main screen, and it just says 'ready' at the bottom as opposed to 'back up in prgress'. the other thing that could happen is it starts to copy it, then after a short while i get a crash handler window come up, saying k9copy has crashed, and so k9copy closes, and i'm back to square one.
i had k9copy on a previous install and it worked fine, i can't understand why it's not now. this isn't just one dvd either, it's happened to the last 3-4 i've tried. o multimedia guru's....please help me any advice much appreciated, Ross. edit: will run it from a console and post any errors, if any, that it gives. until i can, any tips would be nice. thanks again. |

I had a diff. problem with k9copy where the de (kde) would do a reboot (like ctrl+alt+bksp) and found that the kde4 version (2.0) worked fine - you could give it a try.

ok, i have uploaded 3 error reports from consoles. each one is different. oddly, not all dvds give the same error. you will see on one of them it says killed at the end. this is because system was ground to a halt, it said k9copy was using almost 2gb of ram, and 1gb of swap was being used (you can imagine what that's like....)
do these make any sense to anyone? the first one (the longer one) the dvd actually read and completed the back up, however, upon trying to encode it with avidemux, when avidemux said opening mpeg avidemuxjust crashed. what on earth is going on  cheers guys |

My suggestion would be to identify all the k9copy dependencies, and then list the exact version (and source where you obtained the rpm) for each dependency. Then compare that against the same list from some who has a functioning k9copy.
I'm not at Linux PC right now, but tonight (or tomorrow night) when at home, I might be able to produce a list of all my applicable applications (and their versions) that you could then compare with yours. You could also remove/rename any configuration file that k9copy keeps under /home/your-username/. and then try k9copy again. Please note that a re-install of k9copy typically does NOT remove such a configuration file. |
