I decided to create a guide on how to update alsa via rpm, and reference that guide from the audio troubleshooting guide. The audio troubleshooting guide contains an openSUSE-10.3 example for updating alsa via rpm, but I've had so many newbies ignore (or misread) the text and send the wrong zypper command, it is making me think I need to be more explicit for each possible (mainstream) openSUSE-10.2, 10.3 and 11.0 (when it is released) kernel (and bigsmp) configuration.
My first draft is here: http://en.opensuse.org/Alsa-update Again, it is intended to be a referenced compliment from the openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide here: http://en.opensuse.org/AudioTroubleshooting I "guessed" at the openSUSE-10.2 zypper commands (as I no longer have a 10.2 system, and I am not a zypper user), so can a 10.2 user review that? Please keep suggestions as succinct as practical. And I have no idea as to the 10.1 commands as: a. package management was broken in 10.1 and b. I am a smart package manager user, and never used yast software management in 10.1 very much. Hence some succinct suggestions/comments there for 10.1 from a 10.1 user would be helpful. |

I'm moving the audio troubleshooting guide to this URL:
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:AudioTroubleshooting I'll put a link in the old, to the new. |
