I thought to follow recent advice and install tovid; by updating smart, I located tovid, but it would not install as I did not have python-wxGTK; smart could not seemingly locate that for me; and on http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.p...stem=&arch=
I found an rpm; I downloaded that, but on trying to install it I got the error message: error: open of /usr/share/comps/i386/hdlist failed: No such file or directory I did a google search on this last error message; the only entry on this was from a seeming Duke university post; but Google was unhappy with the certificate of authenticity coming from there; so I felt reluctant to try it; I post this to illustrate the slight difficulties one can still have trying to install programmes; |

Also, please confirm: a. what openSUSE version you are using, and b. whether you are using the version of Smart packaged by Novell/SuSE or the version of Smart packaged by yaloki/guru. You most definitely SHOULD be using the version of Smart packaged by yaloki/guru. You can tell that by typing: <span style="font-family:Courier New">rpm -qa | grep smart </span> and post the output here. For example I have smart-0.52-74.1 installed on the family laptop. On my openSUSE-10.3 PC's, with Guru's packaged version of Smart, tovid installs with practically a single mouse click. Hence I think you have something misconfigured (or have the wrong package version somewhere, or you have updated a library that you should not have to be compatible with tovid). |

thank you;
we have 10.2 on this computer; with KDE; in response to rpm -qa | grep smart: smart-gui-0.50-1.guru.suse102 I am pleased to hear how uneventfully you were able to install tovid on your computer |

EDIT - note - a general "philosophy" of Packman packages is they do not provide applications which can not be installed without the Packman and openSUSE repos being in place. ie extra repos should not be necessary .... ie you should not have to go to another rpm site (than packman or opensuse/Novell) to get your rpms to install tovid. ... Hence we need to track down if this is: a. your problem because of a python-wxGTK library that is inappropriate for your openSUSE or b. a packman error (where they have not followed their philosophy by mistake) |

Some additional thoughts. When I went to Packman for openSUSE-10.2:
http://packman.links2linux.org/package/wxWidgets/56372 and then for openSUSE-10.3: http://packman.links2linux.org/package/wxWidgets/56381 I assume you have wxWidgets installed? Also, I noted for openSUSE-10.3 there is python-wxGTK provided by Packman, but not for openSUSE-10.2. That suggests to me that either: a. python-wxGTK is either provided by Novell/SuSE for 10.2 (and you need to install that), or b. you mistakenly tried to install a tovid built for openSUSE-10.3 on your 10.2 PC, or c. Packman made a mistake. Please, can you check if you have "python-wxGTK" installed? and also check your Smart repositories to ensure you did not mistakenly add a 10.3 repository, .... and also check the version of tovid you are trying to install. |

to give smart its best shot, I updated the packman channel and ran the "install tovid" and tovidl is now successfully installed;
thanks very much for commenting |
