Hello,
Is there a simple tool for converting different audio formats? For example, wav to mp3, mp3 to wav... Actually, now I need to convert APE to mp3... Is there a simple way to do it? Thanks in advance! |

Yes, it does convert the APE format, but it makes a single mp3 file with all tracks in it.
Is it possible to convert APE to multiple mp3's? |

It is posible, but you need the cue file. This page explains how to do it.
In short you need the following: - mac (Mono Audio Console): to convert from ape to wav - bchunk: to split the wav file using the cue file. - lame: to convert from wav to mp3 An alternative way is to convert from ape to mp3 with mac, then use lame to convert from wav to mp3 and finally use mp3splt to split the mp3 file using the cue file. There are packages for SuSE that provide both bchunk and lame. I don't know about mp3splt, but for mac I am certain you need to build from source (it is really simple if you follow the steps in the first link I posted). I have made myself a _very_ simple script that uses mac, bchunk and lame to convert from simgle ape file + cue file to several mp3 files. I am attaching the file in case you want it. Please bear with it or modify it for your needs: it supposes the ape file and the cue file are in the same folder and have the same base name but different extension (if the script cannot find the cue file it will create a single mp3), but it works for me. |

BTW, I have just checked and it seems to be a package (actually two) for mp3splt in packman's repo.

Another application to use for converting from one audio type to another is "PACPL" (Perl Audio Converter). This package works well with KDE as there is a konqueror plugin. After this is installed, one simply does a right click on an audio file (in konqueror file manager), and go to ACTIONS > PACPL-Convert, and one can select dozen's of different audio formats to convert the audio file to. Its that simple.
It will also be supported in KDE-4. Web site: http://pacpl.sourceforge.net/ Packman packaged rpm version: http://packman.links2linux.org/package/pacpl Again (at the risk of sounding like a broken record) the way to install an application such as this is to add Packman to one's favourite Software Package Manager's repositories, and then do a semi-automatic install, sorting all of the many dependencies. Very automatic and simple. For the openSUSE-10.3 newbies, here is a URL providing very simple and easy guidance how to add Packman to YaST Software Package Management: http://opensuse-community.org/Repositories/10.3 Once Packman is added, one just runs zypper or YaST to install pacpl and pacpl-konqueror. |
