Hi all.
Something strange is happening with my 10.3 system. I can play and listen DVDs, I can burn CDs and DVDs, I can play and listen all kinds of audio and video formats, but my system cannot recognize audio CDs...when I insert any of them nothing happens, if I do it with a data DVD/CD or with a film in DVD everything goes fine. What can it be? Thanks. |

If what you want is to autoplay the audio CD, then try setting default action for Audio CD in: Kcontrol->Peripherals->Storage Media and in the Notifications tab select an "Auto Action" for the "Audio CD" medium type. In my case I have chosen to play it using kscd.
I assumed you are using kde. If you are using gnome, you'd better wait for some else's suggestion. |

Thank you for your answers, but I still have the same problem. I am using KDE.
The matter is like follows: 1. when I insert an audio CD, nothing happens. It does not mount. I cannot access it. If I type audiocd in konqueror's bar it gives me an error. Of course amarok, kaffeine, kscd...none of them can read the audioCDbut 2. if I insert a Data CD, or a DVD, the system recognizes them immediately. It mounts normally and I can read, listen, copy...etc them without problems. 3. of course I can play and listen all kinds of MM files in my HD. ogg, wav, mp3, m4a, midi....... I think it must be a problem with the configuration of my system I have tried as root and as normal user...all the same. Any idea? |

First off, you don't mount an audio cd. Second, most modern distros use udev. I just did a tip on this. So first off, stop trying to mount the cd. [attachmentid=2339] [attachmentid=2340] Here is the tip I did. http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.ph...view=getnewpost |

Thanks Jonathan for your answer. OK audio CDs are not mounted, I had forgotten it.
The problem is I cannot use audiocd:/ in konqueror, because as normal user I get the simple message "could not be read", and as root it says "device doesn't have read permissions for this account. Check the permissions of the device". The device is /dev/sr0.......must I do something in the permissions of sr0?? Having in mind that I am an average user, my question is: is there an easy way to correct that problem? I use KDE. Thanks. |

You can't use konqueror or any other file browser to view music cd contents. sr0 has to do with udev. It's a temporary node that is soft linked via the sysfs to /media. Now you can look at things via sysfs, but you can not use a file browser to look the contents of an audio cd. So, so far, nothing is wrong, except you're trying to do something that isn't meant to be done. There are many programs that can view the contents of your audio cd. Kaffeine, grip, amarock, banshee, vlc, k3b, to name but a few. |

![]() I can't see any CD, nor tracks when I open any of those programs (VLC, MPlayer, KPlayer...etc) |

I bet then, that you did something. When you insert a dvd or cd, you should get this; [attachmentid=2342] if you're not, then at the bottom of the list is a do nothing option. So if you select that, or the top option, Open in a new Window, and select Always do this for this type of media, then it will stop that box from popping up. And since you can't view it in a file browser, you effectively told it to do something it can't do, and by selecting this all the time, you won't see the box. I'm guessing you did that. |
