ARCHIVES - Multimedia Don't know how to watch DVDs using mplayer? Asking yourself what the heck mplayer is? This is the right place to ask.

just installed 10.3 and when i put in a dvd in the dvd-rom nothing happens. the dvd is in vob's
i tried totem movie player , i guess that doesn't play them or it doesn't recognize my dvd-rom
when i place in an audio CD it plays .

what do i need for playing or recognizing dvd's

no software even pops up when i put in a dvd ... software pops up and plays automatically when i put in a audio cd
no did not do the one click multimedia, is that the option? so there is nothing in the software management

as geoffro gave you a link to the codecs download them, now after i downloaded all the codecs etc i still found i couldn't play dvds, at least not with kaffeine, you may find that downloading vlc player useful.

why cant i locate my dvd-rom when i look for it in real player 10?

i cant seem to locate the dvd-rom to play a dvd or cd when i open or browse for it?

the dvd should appear in my computer (that is sysinfo:/ ) and you should be able to open it (in browser view, seeing audio_ts and video_ts folders) i don't have much experience with real player since i don't really like it that much, in vlc you just go file>open disc>next and then it plays :blink:

is the disc showing in sysinfo:/ ? is a user made disc, or one you bought?

i have a dvd that works and now mplayer will play dvd's..

i made the vob files open with mplayer by going to file browser and picking open with other applications and browsed a custom command to gmplayer located at /usr/bin/gmplayer

but when i put the dvd in dvd-rom mplayer doesn't automatically open the dvd and play it?

how come the software (mplayer) wont automatically open and play

because it mplayer is not instructed to open your DVDs, it's as simple as it gets

i tried choosing mplayer with open with other applications but wouldn't play
how do i get software to open a dvd automatically?
