Vlc Installation

i m using suse 10.3,i am having problem in installing vlc media player.it is asking for FFmpeg codec library.i have installed that but yet it gives the same error


checking for ffmpeg-config... no
checking for FFMPEG... yes
checking ffmpeg/avcodec.h usability... no
checking ffmpeg/avcodec.h presence... no
checking for ffmpeg/avcodec.h... no
configure: error: Missing header file ffmpeg/avcodec.h.



also give me a link from where i can download ffmpeg

My guess is this is because you have both Packman and Videolan repositories selected. They don't mix well.

My recommendation is to select one, or the other, but NOT both repositories.

I keep videolan inactive, and I only use Packman. You will find the packman packaged ffmpeg/libffmpeg works well with the Packman packaged vlc.

have you trie the 1click install from here

oldcpu, maybe i'm a lucky one, i have both repo's and they haven't seemed to cause any problems :huh:

though follow oldcpu's advice, he's a multimedia expert

Disable packman repository, enable VLC repository and suse DVD and install. I have made a zip update for april containing some rpms, will be updating the post shortly. In the mean time, these are the dependencies for VLC and their sources, if you did a default KDE/GNOME install
