ARCHIVES - Multimedia Don't know how to watch DVDs using mplayer? Asking yourself what the heck mplayer is? This is the right place to ask.

Just installed v10.3.
Either I'm missing some packages/libraries or smth is well malfunctioning. I can watch flash-player videos, but movies (divx; flv format ???) are not seen - only empty box in the place where should be a videoplayer window.

mozilla mplayerplug-in is installed, as well as VLC, Real, MPlayer and Co.

I have MediaConnectivity, but this doesn't help much.

Finally, in the version 10.2 I didn't face such problems.

Need help.
Thanks.

 and what did you have installed on 10.2 that you don't have on 10.3?

I'm struggling a bit with your query, as you have not given us much to go on. For example, you note:

To the best of my knowledge flv IS flash-video. So on the one hand you state you can watch flash-player-video, and the other hand you say you can not. That simply does not make sense to me.

Have you installed w32codec-all ? Have you installed xvid? divx? divx4linux?

I recommend you surf the Packman packager site and see what applications are available. The search function works great on that site. http://packman.links2linux.de/

I do agree partially. When I use MediaConnectivity button I see that the stream I cannot open has "flvplayer.swf" ref. That's why I misled you.

I just found that I do not have divx4linux in my system. When I try to use Yast2 to look it up, it doesn't find it in the repositories (here I have to mention that as repositories I marked all the available buttons except the "sources" repository for experts)

Trying to install given package from packman gives finally following:

Software installation
Installation was only partially successful.
The following packages could not be installed
divx4linux

et voila.

Any comments, pls ?

I just downloaded divx4linux-20030428-0.pm.0.i586.rpm from packman and tried to install it using terminal:

rpm -ivh divx4linux-20030428-0.pm.0.i586.rpm
warning: divx4linux-20030428-0.pm.0.i586.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 5277a2fa
error: Failed dependencies:
libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 is needed by divx4linux-20030428-0.pm.0.i586

it seems that this libstdc is like pain in the ***.

I may want to try to link this one with libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so , but will it be a good solution ?...

thanks for help

Upon reflection, you probably don't need divx nor divx4linux to play video with firefox.

I would check your settings and plugins for firefox. Maybe they are interfering. I only have:
- mplayerplug-in
- flash-player
as plugins. And I have DownloaderHelper and User Agent as extensions.

IMHO your problem lies elsewhere.

OK, I checked settings. The stream I want to watch is ascribed to application/x-shockwave-flash

Can I watch it with smth else, ot how can I refer to mplayerplug-in (where is an executable ???) ?
