I have the ability to playback DVDs following the community instructions. However, the "refresh rate"? seems way too slow, as a result the film looks blurred.

I tried the hwprobe=-modules.pata, but that did not make any difference.

Intel has had a long history of producing or commissioning open source drivers for its graphics chips, with all chipsets dating back to the i810 having open 2D and 3D drivers for Linux. It is the only major graphics hardware vendor to do so: for an analysis by company see Graphics hardware and FOSS.

In August 2006, Intel added support to the open-source X.Org/XFree86 drivers for the latest 965 series that include the GMA (X)3000 core.[28] These drivers were developed for Intel by Tungsten Graphics.[29]

In May 2007, version 2.0 of the driver (xorg-video-intel) was released, which added support for the 965GM chipset. In addition, the 2.0 driver added native video mode programming support for all chipsets from i830 forward. This version added support for automatic video mode detection and selection, monitor hot plug, dynamic extended and merged desktops and per-monitor screen rotation. These features are built in to the X.Org 7.3 X server release and will eventually be supported across most of the open source X.Org video drivers.[30] Version 2.1, released in July 2007, added support for the G33, Q33 and Q35 chipsets.[31]. G35 is also supported by the Linux driver.[32]

As is common for X.Org drivers on Linux, the license is a combination of GPL (for the Linux kernel parts) and MIT (for all other parts).[33]

The drivers were mainly developed by Intel and Tungsten Graphics (under contract) since the chipsets documentations were not publicly available for a long time. On January 2008, Intel released the complete developer documentation for their latests chipsets (965 and G35), allowing for further external developers involvements.[/b]
this site shows that the xorg drivers out of the box of your install supports this chipset for 2d intel graphics drivers for linux

so it is like you say a refresh rate problem.... perhaps a xorgconfig via command line

linux:~ # sax2 -r
SaX: initializing please wait...
SaX: your current configuration will not be read in

SaX: access to your display has been granted
SPP: prepare device [0] profile: Depth24
SPP: prepare device [0] profile: Intel
SPP: calling device [0] profile script: Intel
SPP: including prepared profile(s)...

SaX: startup
SaX: X-Server: :0.0 -> grant
SaX: using cache data...

linux:~ #

Same result, unfortunately. Display is blurred for relatively fast moving objects that are crystal clear if watched via DVD to crt TV.

did you reboot?

you may have to edit your xorg config files to the specs your monitor supports, though I wouldn't want to begin telling exactly unless i knew what your monitor did support....you would have to make a backup copy of your xorg config files before hand, because if you don't know what youre doing you can seriously mess things up...

well read the above link closely it links here but gives you a hint (XrandR) that may help before messing with config it links to intels documentation on another link I sent, here it is again.

intels own docs

browse through the linux on thinkpad link where it applies to you, then follow it to intels documentation....setting refresh rates res etc without reboot by that command
